Domain Managing Architect - Cloud

Horace Mann is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking

Domain Managing Architect – Cloud to lead the development and execution of our enterprise cloud strategy. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thought leader and a hands-on cloud architecture expert with extensive experience in modern cloud platforms, enterprise transformation, artificial intelligence, and scalable architecture frameworks.

This role partners closely with business and IT leadership, reports to the Director of Enterprise Architecture, and serves as a trusted advisor on enterprise cloud strategy, modernization, and technology transformation.

Responsibilities

• Define, lead, and execute the enterprise cloud strategy, including multi-year migration and modernization roadmaps across Azure and AWS for core insurance systems and supporting applications.
• Develop hybrid and multi-cloud strategies encompassing workload assessment and placement, portability, modernization, migration, and legacy-system decommissioning.
• Partner with infrastructure, security, data, integration, and platform teams to implement scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-optimized cloud environments.
• Lead modernization initiatives, including application rationalization, legacy-system transformation, technical debt reduction, and adoption of cloud-native and AI-ready platforms.
• Lead and approve Enterprise Architecture Assessments, including assessments of AI-enabled solutions and cloud migration initiatives.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards and security, data, privacy, regulatory, and responsible AI requirements.
• Guide the design and evolution of landing zones, cloud foundations, FinOps practices, and migration factory models to deliver predictable outcomes at scale.
• Provide end-to-end architecture leadership for complex, large-scale transformation programs.
• Guide domain architects, solution architects, engineering teams, and business leaders on complex technology decisions and architectural trade-offs.
• Identify, communicate, and mitigate architectural risks, technical debt, and technology gaps.
• Define and govern enterprise standards, architecture patterns, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps.
• Present architecture recommendations, risks, and strategic options to executive and technology leadership.
• Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least eight years in cloud architecture and technical leadership roles.
• Hands-on cloud architecture experience with a proven record of leading enterprise-scale cloud transformation and legacy modernization programs.
• Broad, cross-domain expertise spanning enterprise and solution architecture, data platforms, integration, infrastructure, networking, security, and cloud operations.
• Experience working within an Enterprise Architecture framework, such as TOGAF.
• Strong knowledge of modern architecture practices, including cloud-native, microservices, event-driven, and AI-enabled architectures.
• Proven ability to lead modernization initiatives across complex application and technology landscapes.
• Experience defining and governing enterprise architecture standards, patterns, reference architectures, and technology roadmaps aligned with business strategy.
• Proficiency in creating architecture artifacts and diagrams using tools such as Microsoft Visio or draw.io.
• Ability to collaborate with business leaders, IT executives, architects, and engineering organizations to translate strategic objectives into scalable technology solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the insurance industry is highly preferred.
• Experience implementing AI governance frameworks in regulated environments.
• Exposure to Agentic AI and Generative AI (LLMs, RAG, vector databases)
• Professional cloud certifications, such as Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
• Pay Range: $124,200.00 - $175,800.00
• Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
