We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse - Hematology/Oncology at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas, NV.
General Knowledge:
Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate.
Utilize the nursing process as a basis for professional
Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments, as appropriate.
Knowledge of disease management and education
Working knowledge of military health care system including TRICARE health benefits or a working knowledge of the principles of fee-for-services, preferred provider network and managed care/HMO organizations is highly desirable.
Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents, to specifically include chemotherapeutic, immunotherapy agents, and disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDS), including the desired effects, side effects, and
Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patients’ conditions including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
Job Specific Details and Tasks:
Manages patient care requirements within the unit as well as coordinates with ancillary departments and outside organizations to ensure the continuum of care.
Is accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
Performs a full range of nursing procedures to include, but not limited to: patient counseling and education, telephone consultations with patients, reviewing charts, intravenous fluid administration, oxygen administration, vital signs monitoring and recording, specimen collection, and other unit-specific procedures as prescribed by the Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as Participates in peer
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for adult and geriatric
Synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical
Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
Ensures compliance with standards of care, practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for Assessment includes but is not limited to: physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, language barriers, age specific, and discharge planning needs.
Assesses patients, including the ability to assess/evaluate/triage
Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency
Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, pharmacy, radiology, and lab to plan, implement and evaluate care.
Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.

Skilled in setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, oxygen analyzers, suction, vital signs monitoring devices, and other clinic specific equipment.
Ensure medication/supplies are replenished and stored within regulatory
Recognized adverse signs and symptoms and quickly responds to medical emergencies as Initiates CPR if required and assists with providing ACLS measures when
Provides clinical oversite of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic
Ensures for proper documentation and coding of procedures and
Completes orientation, competency verification, and educational programs in accordance with facility and unit specified guidelines.
Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as Provides relevant and timely information to these groups.
Assists with decision-making for process improvement
Participates in customer service initiatives, quality projects, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
Ensures a safe work environment for patients and employees in accordance with regulatory, infection control, national and local standards and policies.
Assists providing nursing care in other clinics at the discretion of the clinic Medical Director and flight leadership.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday within the main clinic operating hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm
Shift Structure: A flexible schedule, including 10-hour shifts, will be assigned by the Government supervisor to ensure clinic coverage and meet patient care needs. All shifts include a minimum 30-minute uncompensated lunch break.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Possess a Bachelors degree in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Experience: Must have been employed in an Infusion Center/Clinic with at least 12 months experience within the past 24 months.
Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse from any state.
Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) are required. Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/Oncology Nursing Corporation (ONCC) Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification is required at hire or must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must maintain currency of certifications at NO cost to the government.
Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
