A Locomotive Mechanic’s responsibilities include general mechanical duties including, but not limited to inspecting, servicing, repairing and maintaining diesel locomotives. Must have a working knowledge of hand tools and be able to work in adverse seasonal conditions.
- General Duties: • Operate general hand tools
- • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, air brakes, running gear and other locomotive components
- • Inspect, repair, and install electrical components
- • Fabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materials
- • Perform periodic service on locomotives
- • Comply with railroad safety and operating rules
- Job Requirements: • 18 years of age or older
- • High School Diploma or GED
- • Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
- • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
- • Valid driver’s license
- • Must be able to work varying shifts, including weekends and overtime as required
- • Must be able to occasionally work in varying weather conditions
- • Must be able to submit to and be able to pass a drug screen
- • Maintain a good attendance record
- • Must be able to pass a background check
- • Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment
- Physical Requirements: • Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
- • Must be able to carry and lift 30 lbs. frequently and push and pull 75 lbs. frequently
- Must be able to carry and lift occasionally 50-90 lbs., push and pull 250 lbs. and grip 100 lbs.
