From Placemakr's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
A bit about us
At Placemakr, home meets hospitality. We’ve combined the best of apartment living, vacation rentals, and hotel stays into one experience. We partner with developers, property operators, and investors to curate a collection of apartment-like spaces in hand-picked neighborhoods. Our tech-enabled buildings create one-of-a-kind guest experiences and add tremendous value to the underlying real estate.
Whether guests are with us for a night, a year, or somewhere in between, these are more than just spaces to spend the night — they’re a place to call home.
Our property team members help our buildings thrive by focusing on execution and ensuring a great experience for both residents and guests. Our non-property team members support property execution and the evolution of other areas within our platform. They can enjoy remote-first work with the freedom to choose their location — as long as they have access to a workspace and reliable Wi-Fi.
We believe collaboration is key, so our remote-first teams and property leaders have biannual in-person get-togethers at various locations across the US.
From corporate non-property team members to our property teams and leaders, we’re looking for collaborative, driven individuals to join us as we continue to expand our presence.
The impact you'll have
At Placemakr, our obsession with exceptional service isn’t the only thing that sets us apart – it's our people!
As Chief Engineer, you are responsible for driving the overall execution (creation and ongoing ownership) of the engineering excellence of your Placemakr property, including budgetary efficiency, proactive and effective maintenance, supporting competitive growth-oriented pricing, and the experience of everyone onsite – employees, residents, guests, third-party partners, and building ownership/management.
To best support your team and the business, this position requires open availability for scheduling including nights, weekends and holidays. The exact hours and days of the week and weekend you are expected to be on-site may be rotational and is at the discretion of you, your direct leader and Placemakr's operational standards.
What you'll do: Stand up your asset's Engineering structure, including the hands-on implementation of all back-end and access systems, programming back of house and storage spaces, establishing a base inventory and timely ordering system, and creation of Maintenance SOPs and Preventative Maintenance plan
Develop and execute building-specific engineering reporting, and a skilled and proactive maintenance strategy
Ensure the asset is current on required inspections and licensing
Take full ownership of onsite Engineering operations, collaborating cross-functionally and within your onsite property teams to develop and implement best practices geared towards optimizing asset health and aesthetics, work order completion and timeliness, and an internal turn process to promote occupancy and retention, and overall resident/guest and team member experience
What it takes: A bachelor’s degree, preferably in management, business administration, communications, hospitality or a related field; or commensurate experience in lieu of a formal degree
A demonstrated track record of operational and financial success made possible by a true customer-focus, managing controllable expenses, driving team performance, effective decision-making skills and a solutions-oriented mindset
You lead by example and embody the core values of Placemakr. You Own It. You Make It Better. You Treat People Right.
Chief Engineers will be on their feet and moving around (stand, sit, or walk for an extended time) and taking a hands-on approach to work (move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance). Doing all these things well (and other reasonable job duties as requested) is critical for our General Managers and an exceptional guest experience.
20 days of paid time off (PTO) per year, with the flexibility to use it, roll it over, or cash it out!
PTO increases to 25 days per year after 2.5 years of employment
Up to 8 floating holidays per year so you can celebrate what matters most to you!
*The exact benefit terms and coverage are detailed in the Employee Handbook. Please note that Placemakr has the right amend policies and are subject to change.
Our community norms
Great people are the key to our success. From corporate team members to our property teams and leaders, we’re looking for collaborative, driven individuals to join us as we continue to expand our presence across the US. Most importantly, we create positive community norms that shape our company culture and inform how we do business:
We own it.
We make it better.
We treat people right.
