Foundation Litigation Intern (Summer 2027)

Overview

AARP Foundation is the charitable affiliate of AARP. We work to end senior poverty by helping vulnerable older adults build economic opportunity and social connectedness. We run a public interest law firm that takes on cutting-edge impact litigation in federal and state courts nationwide to advance the legal rights and interests of people 50 and older. , the litigating unit of AARP Foundation. We are looking for a top-notch rising third-year or advanced degree law student with a passion for litigation to work with us to end senior poverty. If you are a critical thinker, an eager learner, and a team player who wants to gain valuable experience in public interest law, read on. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Working under the supervision of AARP Foundation attorneys, you will: Conduct legal research
• Draft memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents
• Assist in civil discovery
• Interview current and potential clients
• Work with outside co-counsel
• Participate in litigation strategy

Qualifications

• Rising third-year or advanced degree (e.g., L.L.M.) law student at the start of the internship (Summer 2027)

• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency with WESTLAW and other legal research platforms
• Significant experience with The Blue Book: A Uniform System of Citation
• Demonstrated public interest/public service interest or experience
• In-office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
• AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position.
