Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Pediatrics
$10K Sign-on Bonus (Paid out 6/12/18/24 mths)
Position Summary
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Pediatrics partners with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy for pediatric patients. This role serves as a trusted clinical resource for physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and patients, while supporting organizational goals, advancing clinical excellence, and upholding Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Practice
Review patient records to ensure appropriate, safe, and effective medication therapy
Evaluate patient conditions to identify gaps in treatment and optimize care plans
Develop individualized medication regimens that minimize risk and maximize therapeutic outcomes
Monitor patient responses to therapy and adjust recommendations accordingly
Provide consultation to prescribers, nurses, and patients regarding medication selection, dosing, administration, and potential adverse effects
Identify and resolve medication-related issues, including interactions, contraindications, and formulary considerations
Document patient care interventions, medication plans, and outcomes accurately
Collaboration & Care Coordination
Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
Serve as a clinical pharmacy resource for pediatric care teams
Maintain strong professional relationships across departments
Participate in care planning discussions and clinical rounds
Clinical Expertise & Program Development
Evaluate medication orders for clinical appropriateness and operational efficiency
Participate in investigational drug protocols as applicable
Support and contribute to Medication Use Evaluations (MUEs), quality assurance initiatives, and adverse drug event reporting
Assist in developing and validating staff competencies related to pharmacy and patient care practices
Maintain advanced knowledge in pediatric pharmacotherapy and specialty practice areas
Education & Preceptorship
Serve as an active preceptor for pharmacy students, residents, and trainees
Deliver educational programs, in-services, and clinical presentations to healthcare staff
Contribute to ongoing clinical education initiatives within the organization
Operational Excellence & Compliance
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation bodies (e.g., Joint Commission), and organizational policies
