POSITION SUMMARY:
The Polysomnographic Technologist works collectively with the Medical Director, Leadership, staff and patients to achieve optimal efficiency and success in sleep disorder testing and scoring. Performs comprehensive sleep testing / analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of the Leader, Medical Director, or designee. Provide supervision of a Polysomnographic Trainee.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma/ GED
Must meet one of the following requirements.
Successful completion of an accredited educational program with an associate’s degree in an allied health field.
Completion of six months experience as a sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies.
Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent.
6 months clinical experience working as an EEG Tech.
Licensure/Certification:
CPR-American Heart Association (BLS for Health Care Proivders).
Must obtain one of the following within 24 months of hire:
Certification extensions may be granted up to an extra 12 months if approved by leadership and there is a business need to do so.
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist – (RPSGT), Registry in sleep technology through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT).
The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) - Sleep Disorders Specialty – SDS.
Other skills/knowledge:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Associate degree in an allied healthcare field (respiratory care or neuro-diagnostics).
- Other skills/knowledge: Analytical skills necessary to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative statistical data and conduct diagnostic procedures.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to explain procedures to patient to alleviate their apprehensions and gain their cooperation
