IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering New Graduate in Fairfax, VA. This entry-level role offers hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one. You will support the development of structural systems and project documents while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants.
In this role, you will contribute to project planning, quality control, construction-phase support, and multidisciplinary coordination while helping teams meet project budgets, goals, and client expectations. You will join a structural team serving commercial and institutional clients, with strong activity in mission critical and data center work, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do
Assist in the design and analysis of structural systems using a variety of building materials, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively, while building and maintaining client relationships through professional communication
Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects
Assist in project planning and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives
Assist with documenting design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress
Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
Engage in the full life cycle of projects from conception through construction by developing designs, construction documents and participating in construction administration duties such as reviewing construction submittals and participating in job site observations
Work within the project’s monetary budget and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations
What You'll Bring (Required)
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Master’s Degree (MS) required
Knowledge of design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to structural mechanics and materials as it relates to structural design of buildings and other structures
Knowledge of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural analysis and design software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges
Basic knowledge in the use of BIM software.
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays
Preferred
Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Engineering in Training (EIT) License preferred

DC structural team is driven by mission critical/data center work in Northern Virginia, plus commercial interiors and selective K-12, housing, and hospitality support.
Portfolio includes structural support for data center upgrades, warehouse and restaurant fit-outs, core-drill/load reviews, and school HVAC-related structural modifications.
Recent work includes Sabey Data Centers Intergate Campus Building A Core and Shell, Data Center/Mission Critical, and Prince William County Public Schools Bull Run Middle School HVAC System Renovation, Education.

State of Virginia Pay Range: $74,000-$79,000
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
