What you’ll do (day to day)
- Establish and drive clear, effective, and innovative solution designs aligning to The Hartford’s reference architectures, blueprints, and business and IT strategies across our Digital properties, with a focus on AI and strategic thinking.
- Translate strategy into end ‑ to ‑ end solution designs spanning mobile, responsive web, APIs, microservices/micro ‑ frontends, data, and cloud infrastructure.
- Produce option analyses and decision records balancing strategic alignment, security, reliability, complexity, and cost.
- Design solutions leveraging SaaS and Native Cloud architectures and services, focusing on rationalizing and modernizing assets.
- Advance digital identity and zero ‑ trust patterns across experiences; ensure alignment with enterprise security standards.
- Partner with value streams on roadmaps and increments; ensure designs meet non ‑ functional expectations and are operable (telemetry, SLOs, runbooks).
- Evaluate and land emerging Technologies where it demonstrably improves outcomes.
- Align to architecture governance: reviews, permits to build, conformance checks, and pragmatic exceptions when warranted.
- This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, or Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
What you’ll do (day to day)

Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Solution Architecture, Application Architecture, or Senior Software Engineering within a large enterprise environment.
- Experience in the Small Commercial Insurance industry.
- Proven success designing and delivering cloud-based solutions in AWS and/or Google Cloud.
- Experience with: Microservices and service-oriented architectures
- API and event-driven integrations (REST, SOAP)
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI and Machine Learning , including: Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Semantic Search
- Embedding Models
- Agentic AI architectures
- Knowledge of Customer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) and modern authentication standards (OAuth2, OIDC).
- Experience building modern web applications using Angular, React, or similar frameworks .
- Strong understanding of: APIs, REST, JSON, and HTTP standards
- Cloud and hybrid-cloud environments
- Containerized applications and orchestration platforms
- Experience applying product thinking , measuring success through KPIs, and balancing reliability, scalability, and cost.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and mentor technical teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Cloud and Architecture certifications are a plus.
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
