Cable Technician Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, adjustment, and change of copper layer-one network connections for technical systems under the supervision of a senior technician.
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Category 5e/6/6a copper cabling for data infrastructure in a large enterprise environment.
- Properly comb, dress, and label copper cables in accordance with site and industry standards (TIA/EIA, ANSI/BICSI).
- Implement structured pathways per approved designs, accounting for the physical constraints of copper media (bend radius, pull tension, separation from EMI sources).
- Interpret and follow floor plan designs; escalate any deviations from plan to a senior technician in a professional and timely manner.
- Operate industry-standard copper test equipment (cable certifiers, tone generators, continuity testers) at a basic level and record results accurately.
