Job Description
Texas A&M University–Victoria seeks one full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Professional Counseling , with a start date of January 2027 . The position is located at the Victoria Campus , and the successful candidate will maintain a regular presence on campus. End date: Open until filled.
Qualifications: The College of Education and Health Professions at Texas A&M University–Victoria invites applications for a tenure-track position in Professional Counseling . The Master of Science in Professional Counseling program offers two CACREP-accredited concentrations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling .
We seek an individual with an earned doctorate in Counselor Education or a closely related field , preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. Candidates should identify with the counseling profession through active involvement in appropriate professional organizations and demonstrate experience in university teaching and clinical supervision of counselors-in-training.
Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of CACREP standards , professional counseling practice, and the preparation of clinical mental health and/o r professional school counselors. Candidates must be eligible for appropriate professional licensure or certification in the State of Texas .
Successful candidates will:
Teach master's-level courses in the CACREP core and courses supporting the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Professional School Counseling concentrations in traditional and online formats ( 4-course or equivalent teaching load in the fall and spring semesters ); Provide clinical supervision to counselors-in-training, including supervision of practicum and internship experiences and clinical site visits as appropriate; Advise and mentor graduate students throughout their academic and professional preparation; Participate in
student recruitment, admissions, orientation, retention, and other program activities; Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement; Collaborate with public schools, school districts, clinical mental health agencies, healthcare organizations, and other community partners; Maintain active involvement in appropriate professional counseling organizations; Maintain an appropriate scholarly agenda consistent with expectations for a tenure-track faculty appointment; Encourage and mentor
student participation in research and professional activities; and
Contribute to the College and University's mission through assigned service.
These responsibilities preserve the substantive expectations in the current ad, including teaching, curriculum development, clinical supervision, student mentoring and recruitment, community partnerships, professional involvement, scholarship, and accreditation work.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching in traditional and online environments, clinical supervision experience, and a strong commitment to counselor preparation.
Additional preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:
Graduation from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision ; Current or previous professional counseling licensure and/or Certified School Counselor (CSC) credentials; Eligibility for professional licensure or certification in Texas; Experience teaching CACREP-aligned graduate counseling coursework; Experience supervising counseling practicum and internship students; Experience in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and/or Professional School Counseling ; Working knowledge of current CACREP standards and
accreditation processes; Experience with program assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement; Evidence of scholarly activity related to counseling, counselor education, clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, or counselor preparation; Experience teaching effectively in online and other technology-supported learning environments; Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and leadership skills; and
A commitment to developing collaborative relationships with schools, counseling agencies, healthcare providers, and community partners.
Appointment at the Associate Professor Rank: Appointment at the Associate Professor rank requires a record of excellence in university teaching and a record of scholarly research and publication commensurate with the candidate's experience and the University's expectations for appointment at that rank.

Setting: Texas A&M University-Victoria is the most recent addition to the Texas A&M University System. The University was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Houston System and was transferred to the Texas A&M University System during the 89th Texas Legislative Session. A&M-Victoria is the only four-year university in a 100-mile radius and is just 30 miles from the Texas Gulf Coast.
