The Opportunity

The SandboxAQ Design team is one unified organization spanning brand, creative, and product, with designers embedded day-to-day in the Business Units they support. This role will initially be working on our AI agentic platform and products.

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our central Design team, reporting to the VP of Design. You will define how people build, evaluate, and trust AI agents in an emerging category, making complex technical concepts understandable across both open-source developer products and enterprise control systems. What makes this work genuinely hard: the category is entirely new yet fast-evolving and crowded, and the audiences are deeply varied.

In this role, you will:

Turn unique value propositions into well-crafted, intuitive UX.

Design for deeply varied audiences, from command-line-first developers to enterprise security leaders, constantly balancing power, privacy, control, and speed.

Create coherent experiences across the product's surfaces: command line, web and console, collaboration spaces, onboarding, and documentation.

Establish the reusable patterns, design principles, and systems thinking the product family grows into.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive product vision and direction.
• Partner with Product and Engineering to define what should be built and how it should work, frame ambiguous problems into clear opportunities, hypotheses, and design directions, break long and complex projects into executable units of work, and identify risks and opportunities to solve collectively.
• Design and prototype in code to accelerate product decisions, customer conversations, and team alignment, collaborating with engineers early so technical constraints shape the design.
• Own visual and interaction design across every surface
• — command line, web and console, collaboration spaces, onboarding, and documentation — developing and evolving a style guide and design system, and contributing reusable patterns and design principles as the product family grows.
• Ground decisions in evidence.
• Conduct workshops, qualitative interviews, usability testing, and other research methods, analyze product analytics to improve user interactions, and distil complex, dense information into clarifying data visualizations and views for the various lenses of user archetypes.
• Operate as part of the org-wide design function.
• Maintain dotted-line, cross-departmental collaboration with design functions in other SandboxAQ Business Units, interface with go-to-market partners on interfaces that support Sandbox's strategic partnership efforts, and travel occasionally to work with teams and customers in person.
• Essential Skills & Experience
• ~6+ years building interfaces for complex technical domains — developer tools, enterprise, security, infrastructure, or AI — with exceptional visual and interaction design craft.
• Strong working knowledge of AI and agentic products and systems, and the ability to make complex technical workflows clear without making them simplistic.
• Fluency with Figma and beyond: using AI tools to augment design efficiency from research to content generation to prototyping in code, plus comfort working directly with engineers and reasoning about technical constraints.
• Hands-on experience conducting user research (usability studies, contextual inquiry, surveys) paired with strong product sense connecting user needs to business and technical outcomes.
• Proven success with early-stage products and companies in fast-paced, highly ambiguous, high-autonomy environments: iterative, proactive, outcome-driven, and a strong verbal communicator able to articulate design concepts to multi-disciplinary stakeholders.
• Highly Desired Skills & Experience
• Experience designing developer tools, command-line experiences, or open-source products.
• Familiarity with emerging machine learning workflows or agentic frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
