1. Inpatient Patient Evaluation & Management
Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations on vascular surgery patients.
Evaluate new inpatient vascular surgery consultations and assist with developing appropriate treatment plans.
Perform daily patient assessments and manage the ongoing care of vascular surgery patients on the floor.
Monitor patients for changes in clinical status and promptly identify potential complications.
Order, review, and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the vascular surgery team.
Communicate significant clinical changes and concerns to the vascular surgeon and appropriate members of the care team.
2. Pre-Operative & Post-Operative Management
Provide comprehensive pre-operative evaluation and management of vascular surgery patients.
Coordinate appropriate pre-operative testing and medical optimization.
Provide daily post-operative management of vascular surgery patients.
Monitor surgical wounds, drains, vascular status, laboratory results, and overall recovery.
Recognize and appropriately manage post-operative complications in collaboration with the vascular surgeon.
Manage pain, medications, fluids, and other aspects of routine inpatient care within the scope of practice.
Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge needs.
3. Inpatient/Floor Responsibilities
Perform daily rounds with the vascular surgery team.
Write daily progress notes, admission notes, consult notes, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation.
Place appropriate orders and manage routine inpatient needs.
Coordinate consultations with other medical and surgical specialties as needed.
Communicate with nursing, case management, physical therapy, social work, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Participate in discharge planning and ensure appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
Respond to clinical issues and patient needs on the vascular surgery floor.
4. Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with vascular surgeons to provide coordinated inpatient care.
Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, clinical progress, and discharge instructions.
Escalate complex or urgent clinical concerns to the supervising/collaborating vascular surgeon.
5. Documentation & Quality
Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and documentation standards.
Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and activities related to vascular surgery patient care.

APP - NP - Floor Coverage only or PA - OR and Floor
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Vascular Surgery team
. This position will focus exclusively on inpatient/floor-based vascular surgery care, working collaboratively with vascular surgeons and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide high-quality care to hospitalized vascular patients.
The APP will be responsible for the evaluation and management of vascular surgery patients throughout their inpatient stay, including admissions, daily floor management, pre-operative and post-operative care, discharge planning, and coordination of care.
Position Focus
This is an inpatient/floor-based APP position. The role does not include routine OR or surgical-assistance responsibilities.
The APP will primarily focus on vascular surgery admissions, inpatient consults, daily floor management, pre-operative and post-operative care, clinical assessment, discharge planning, and coordination of care in collaboration with the vascular surgery team.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
Current New York State licensure as a PA or NP.
PA-C certification through NCCPA or appropriate NP certification.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) certification preferred for NP candidates.
Previous experience in vascular surgery, surgery, critical care, or inpatient medicine is highly desirable.
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and patient-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary inpatient team.
Experience
PA/NP: Experienced providers preferred; will consider a new graduate with relevant clinical rotations, electives, or inpatient/surgical experience.
Vascular surgery experience is preferred but not required for candidates with strong inpatient or surgical backgrounds.
Certification & Licensure
PA-C or appropriate NP certification required.
BLS and ACLS required.
BLS/ACLS certification accepted from: American Heart Association – BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
American Red Cross
Online-only BLS/ACLS programs from any organization will not be accepted.
DEA registration required for providers with discharge prescription responsibilities.
