Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Network Security Engineering leads a team of security architects and engineers responsible for designing, implementing, and operating McKesson's enterprise network security capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of technology and business, translating enterprise risk, compliance, and business requirements into scalable, secure network architectures across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who combines deep technical credibility with strong people leadership, capable of building trusted-advisor relationships across IT, Cybersecurity, Cloud, Application, and Business teams. All security solutions are tested, documented, and validated prior to deployment, reinforcing the Network Design and Engineering team's reputation as a trusted advisor to McKesson's customers and supporting business units.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of network security architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Provide technical mentorship and career development pathways for team members, building bench strength and succession readiness.
Build and manage the team's operating rhythm, workload prioritization, and performance goals in alignment with department objectives.
Strategy & Business Alignment
Shape and communicate a multi-year network security strategy and roadmap that anticipates future technology needs and aligns with enterprise business goals.
Translate business requirements and risk priorities into clear technical requirements, architecture decisions, and engineering execution plans.
Partner with business and IT cross-functional stakeholders, including Cybersecurity, Cloud, IT Operations, Network Operations, and IAM teams, to ensure network security initiatives support broader business transformation objectives.
Build strong relationships with senior leadership, presenting strategic recommendations, investment priorities, and risk trade-offs in business terms.
Architecture & Engineering
Design and implement robust, future-ready network security architectures that meet performance, scalability, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Integrate Zero Trust principles, micro-segmentation, and identity-based access controls across hybrid and multi-cloud environments (Azure and Google Cloud).
Oversee deployment and lifecycle management of advanced security technologies, including next-generation firewalls, Zscaler, Network Access Control, IDS/IPS, and SD-WAN across both IT and OT networks.
Drive network automation initiatives to improve consistency, reduce manual effort, and accelerate secure delivery of infrastructure changes.
Plan, design, and execute infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and optimizations that improve performance, resiliency, and reliability.
Operations, Risk & Compliance
Develop and maintain network security strategies, standards, and operational best practices to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant network operations.
Lead infrastructure security evaluations, control testing, and incident response efforts, driving continuous improvement in overall security posture.
Lead troubleshooting for complex, escalated network issues, ensuring rapid resolution of outages and performance bottlenecks.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls) and internal cybersecurity policy.
Maintain accurate network security documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and operational runbooks.
Evaluate emerging networking and security technologies, recommending enhancements that improve efficiency, resilience, and risk posture.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a strategic thinker with deep technical credibility, strong people leadership, and the business acumen to translate risk and business requirements into scalable, secure solutions.
Minimum Requirements
Typically requires 9+ years of progressive network security engineering experience, including 3+ years of supervisory or management experience building and leading technical teams.
Critical Skills
Demonstrated ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into technical architecture and engineering roadmaps.
Strong expertise in enterprise networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, next-generation firewalls, and cybersecurity.
Hands-on experience implementing cybersecurity frameworks and network security controls at enterprise scale.
Proven experience securing hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), including Zero Trust and identity-based access models.
Proficiency with network and security monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting tools to support proactive risk management.
Track record of building trusted, consultative relationships with business stakeholders, peers, and senior leadership.
Leadership & Business Acumen
Executive-level communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical risk in clear business terms to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and cross-functional project delivery.
Demonstrated success building high-performing teams through coaching, mentorship, and structured professional development.
Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment under pressure, and comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
Preferred Certifications
Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, PCNSE, ZCCP, CCSP, or Azure/AWS Security certifications are a plus.
Education
Minimum Master's degree, Information Security, Cybersecurity or equivalent professional experience with relevant certifications.

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
