Position Overview
The Program Coordinator I is a full-time, grant funded position. The Talent Search Program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville provides services to generate in participants the skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and to enter and succeed in a program of postsecondary education. Talent Search is a component of the federal TRIO* Program.
The Program Coordinator I identifies, recruits and serves a caseload of Talent Search participants; provides academic, college, career, financial aid advising and other technical assistance to participants to promote high school graduation, college enrollment and degree attainment. Coordinates the Saturday Academy, Summer Component and other special events. Oversees advising, tutoring services and data entry according to program rules and regulations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Advising, Academic Support & Participant Services
Create purposeful interactions with students and academic institutions and develop individualized, student-centered educational plans.
Assess participants’ academic and support needs.
Provide academic support and enrichment, including study skills, computer skills, and writing workshops.
Assist participants with accessing online learning materials.
Help students address challenges and connect them with appropriate support services.
Explain policies and procedures involving academic probation, suspension, dropping courses, and satisfactory academic progress.
Provide goal-oriented advising to support educational planning and career exploration.
Develop tutoring schedules based on individual student needs and academic preparation.
Advise and train student tutors and/or peer mentors.
Provide high-quality customer service to prospective participants, current participants, students, the university, and community.
Program Development, Recruitment & Activity Coordination
Develop and implement cultural, social, and academic enrichment components.
Develop and administer curriculum tailored to participant needs in collaboration with high schools and university faculty/staff.
Coordinate and promote recruitment events at designated high schools.
Develop plans and publicity using various communication methods, including social media.
Coordinate project activities and services.
Develop innovative strategies to increase program participation.
Plan and deliver educational seminars, workshops, activities, and academic classes.
Create, implement, and assess participant awareness programming to meet established program objectives.
Coordinate special programming identified in the overall position description, including Saturday Academy, Summer Component, and other special events.
Program Administration, Data Management & Compliance
Maintain student records, track grades and required documentation, and monitor academic progress and program participation.
Review applications and interview students and parents.
Ensure participant documentation is complete and compliant with applicable rules and regulations.
Maintain and monitor hard-copy files and electronic participant data.
Oversee data collection and data entry related to program goals and objectives for the Annual Performance Report submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.
Maintain accurate participation and financial records for program activities.
Ensure all services and activities align with federal grant requirements and university rules and regulations.
Assist administrative support with updates to the program handbook.
Oversee advising, tutoring services, and data entry in accordance with program requirements.

Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, or related field from an accredited college/university.
Required Experience
Two years of professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar program for supporting veterans including experience providing case management services and advising veterans with the college admissions and financial aid application process
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those facing project participants.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee.
