Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems are at the heart of ensuring we provide our customers with the right computing capacity, in the right region, at the right time. Our team owns the pricing, quoting, and sourcing systems that determine what AWS pays for the hardware that builds the cloud. We build the platforms that generate and validate vendor quotes, drive competitive sourcing and negotiation, and give Finance and procurement teams the cost visibility they need to plan and control a multi-billion-dollar hardware supply chain.
Our systems span dynamic quote generation, vendor-facing portals, sourcing and RFQ workflows, and the data pipelines that feed cost estimation and reporting across the org.
We are investing heavily in bringing machine learning and agentic automation into this space, using models to estimate hardware costs ahead of vendor quotes so we can unblock planning and budgeting earlier, and building LLM-powered agentic workflows that automate the manual, judgment-heavy steps in quoting, sourcing, and vendor operations. This is a chance to apply modern ML and GenAI to a domain where a better estimate or a faster workflow translates directly into billions of dollars of capital efficiency.
As a Senior Software Development Engineer on the team, you will guide your team through the design, development, testing, and deployment of a range of products spanning large-scale distributed backend services, data pipelines, ML-driven cost estimation, and agentic automation. You will help build the technical roadmap, raise the engineering bar, and develop the engineers around you. You will have sound technical acumen, excellent project-management skills, and strong communication skills.

Key job responsibilities
1. Design, implement, and deploy large-scale, secure, low-latency services and data pipelines that power pricing, quoting, sourcing, and cost estimation for AWS hardware
2. Lead the development of ML and statistical models for cost estimation and forecasting, and drive them from prototype to production with the right accuracy, monitoring, and business guardrails
3. Build agentic and LLM-powered workflows that automate manual steps in quoting, sourcing, and vendor operations, including evaluation and quality controls for non-deterministic systems
4. Functionally decompose complex, ambiguous supply-chain problems into simple, straightforward solutions, and understand system interdependencies and limitations
5. Partner with Finance, procurement, and vendor-facing teams to translate business problems into technical solutions, and drive measurable impact
6. Share knowledge in performance, scalability, system architecture, ML/GenAI practices, and engineering best practices, and mentor engineers across the team
A day in the life
No two days look the same. You might spend the morning in a design review shaping how a new cost-estimation service fits into our platform, the afternoon deep in implementation or pairing with a teammate on a hard problem, and part of the day bringing machine learning or an agentic workflow into a process that used to be manual. Along the way you'll review code, partner with Finance and procurement to sharpen requirements, help keep the services you own healthy, and mentor the engineers around you. It's a builder's role with real ownership and direct line of sight to the business impact of what you ship.
About the team
Our team sits within AWS Infrastructure Services Supply Chain Management, close to the money and the decisions. We own the pricing, quoting, and sourcing systems that determine what AWS pays for cloud hardware, and we are actively replacing manual, judgment-heavy processes with ML-driven cost estimation and agentic automation. We are a flat, high-ownership software engineering team that partners daily with Finance, procurement, and vendor-facing teams.

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
6+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
A track record of identifying where automation or ML can replace manual effort and driving that change with measurable impact
Experience building and productionizing ML or statistical models for prediction, forecasting, or estimation (e.g. pricing, cost, demand, or time-series forecasting)
Experience designing and shipping agentic or LLM-powered workflows (tool-calling agents, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-step automation), including prompt design, evaluation, and guardrails
Experience integrating foundation models (e.g. Amazon Bedrock) into backend services and measuring quality/regression of non-deterministic systems
Experience building large-scale distributed backend services and data pipelines (event-driven architectures, batch and streaming data processing)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
