Every day, millions of customers check on their orders through Alexa. The Post-Purchase experience is at the center of that habit — it is the second most engaged on-demand experience in Alexa Shopping and drives three-quarters of all proactive engagement. We are hiring a Software Development Manager to lead the team responsible for making package tracking faster and smarter, removing friction when customers need help most, and building a post-delivery companion that keeps them informed long after checkout.
Our roadmap through 2027 is well defined, and the problems ahead are real: new device endpoints, additional channels, and higher customer expectations. If you want to lead a team whose work customers rely on every single day, this is the role.
Key job responsibilities
Lead and grow a software development team, setting technical direction and establishing team structure to deliver on a multi-year roadmap for the Post-Purchase experience across Alexa endpoints and channels.
Define and drive the architecture for distributed, low-latency services at massive scale that power real-time tracking, proactive notifications, and post-delivery experiences for millions of customers.
Partner with product management, applied science, and peer engineering teams to prioritize features, resolve cross-team dependencies, and ship cohesive solutions that reduce friction in the post-purchase journey.
Establish operational metrics and quality mechanisms to measure customer experience, system health, and team delivery velocity, using data to inform roadmap tradeoffs and continuous improvement.
Coach and develop engineers across multiple levels, creating growth plans, providing actionable feedback, and building an inclusive team culture where people do their best work.
A day in the life
You start your morning reviewing operational dashboards and triaging any customer-impacting issues with your on-call engineer. Mid-morning you join a design review where your team is iterating on the next generation of proactive delivery notifications. After lunch you sync with your product manager and applied scientists to refine upcoming sprint priorities, then spend time in a one-on-one coaching session with one of your engineers. Later in the afternoon you collaborate with a partner team to align on an API contract for a new channel integration, before wrapping up with a roadmap planning discussion looking ahead to the next quarter.

We build the services and experiences that power package tracking, delivery updates, and post-delivery support across Alexa-enabled devices. Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science
Background on distributed platform systems management
Deep hands-on technical expertise
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong business and technical vision

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
