Job Description

The Web, Apps & Emerging Experiences is a senior design group focused on shaping what is next for GM’s digital ecosystem. Within this group is the newly formed Digital Brand Experience team. We work ahead of roadmap execution, exploring new interaction models, technologies, and customer behaviors across web, mobile, and intelligent experiences.

As a multi-disciplinary designer, you will help define future‑facing experience paradigms through concept work, prototyping, and interaction frameworks that influence long‑term product and brand direction. This role blends hands‑on design craft with sharp technical skills and close collaboration with product, engineering, marketing, and research partners to create engaging experiences that will resonate with our customers and attract new customers.

What You’ll Do

• Lead exploration and definition of future digital experience paradigms across web and mobile platforms.
• Develop a point of view about how we shape the future vision of design at GM, validate it, and create conditions for the work to come to life with each digital experience.
• Reimagine end-to-end experiences for the web from 0 to 1, identify and document new interaction models, and prototype north star concepts that can inspire our long‑term digital strategy.
• Navigate ambiguous, cross-cutting problems that require strategic thinking, design rigor, and a deep understanding of business goals.
• Establish experience frameworks and design patterns that product teams can evolve into web components and patterns that can be contributed back to the design system.
• Define experiential language, interaction principles, and storytelling approaches for emerging digital journeys that are ownable, brand-aligned, and cohesive across GM.
• Partner closely with product, engineering, research, and marketing teams to validate concepts through experimentation.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate emerging technologies and behaviors into actionable design direction that can be tested and implemented.
• Participate in design reviews, iterate based on feedback, and present work with a focus on visual clarity, craft quality, and execution excellence.
• Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
• Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of experience in digital product and experience design, including senior roles.
• Proven experience designing concept‑driven, future‑facing work across web and mobile platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to define interaction models, experience architectures, complex patterns, and design frameworks at a system level.
• Advanced proficiency with digital design and prototyping tools commonly used for concept and interaction development. Figma is a must. AI tools are a bonus.
• Solid communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to the broader team and stakeholders.
• A portfolio that demonstrates strong brand design and visual design skills with compelling evidence of care in typography, hierarchy, color, and motion.
• Strong UX skills and case studies in your portfolio that show how you translate UX strategy into user journeys that improve the customer experience.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

10+ years of relevant professional experience

Experience working in an advanced, exploratory, or innovation‑focused design team.

Background in integrating emerging technologies such as automation, intelligence, or new input modalities into digital experiences.

Experience aligning company‑level product strategy, roadmap decisions, or platform vision through design.

Proven ability to collaborate with multiple teams and elevate design quality.

Experience operating within large, matrixed organizations with distributed teams.

Proactive about finding gaps and filling them with possible solutions

Proven ability to demonstrate curiosity by learning new technologies and honing your design skills.
