Counselor Administrative Referral

At Horace Mann, we recognize the importance of providing thoughtful, timely support when employees and organizations are navigating challenging workplace situations. As a Counselor, Administrative Referral within an Employee Assistance Program, you will support members referred through the Administrative Referral Program by providing telephonic assessment, coaching, training, resource coordination and case management.

You will manage cases from initial referral through completion and partner with Human Resources professionals, supervisors and service providers to coordinate appropriate support and resources.

What You’ll Do

• Manage Administrative Referral cases from initial intake through completion, including documentation and follow-up.
• Conduct telephonic triage and assessments related to behavioral health, substance use, relationship and work-life concerns.
• Provide members with immediate support, coaching and training based on identified needs.
• Coordinate referrals to network providers and complete session authorizations.
• Connect members with appropriate resources for financial, legal, personal assistance and work-life needs.
• Consult with Human Resources professionals and supervisory personnel from client organizations regarding employee concerns and applicable HR practices and policies.
• Make sound clinical determinations in accordance with company risk policies and the best interests of the member and organization.
• Maintain timely, accurate and professional documentation within the case management system.
• Conduct research to identify appropriate services, providers and resources.
• Support colleagues with case management, case completion and follow-up activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry practices, professional ethical standards and applicable licensure requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or another behavioral health-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional Human Resources experience.
• At least five years of experience in Employee Assistance Program counseling, clinical behavioral health or a professional Human Resources role.
• Strong assessment, triage, immediate-support, research and case management capabilities.
• Knowledge of general Human Resources standards and practices.
• Knowledge of behavioral health conditions and appropriate levels-of-care recommendations.
• Understanding of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and the appropriate handling of Protected Health Information (PHI).
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and other Windows-based programs and applications.
• Strong communication, consultation, organization, judgment and documentation skills.
• Preferred Credentials
• Professional in Human Resources (PHR or SPHR) certification.
• Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) certification.
• An active, current and unrestricted professional license in the state of employment may be required based on the assigned geographic area and responsibilities.
• Pay Range: $66,500 - $92,000
• Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
