Policy Integration Director -Social Security

AARP’s Policy, Research and International Affairs leads the development and communication of AARP’s public policies and, research and insights on the issues that matter to people 50-plus.

The Policy Integration Director-Social Security leads the development, integration, and advancement of Social Security policy strategy, ensuring the organization remains a trusted authority on aging and retirement issues. Directs rapid-response policy initiatives and the creation of high-impact briefing materials, analyses, and visual content to address emerging legislative and regulatory developments.

Partners across the enterprise to align policy priorities with organizational goals, enabling departments to effectively advocate for and communicate policy positions. Conducts complex policy research and analysis, develops innovative policy solutions, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to shape public policy campaigns and advocacy strategies.

Cultivates strategic relationships with government, industry, and thought leaders to inform and influence policy direction while strengthening the organization’s voice on key Social Security issues.

Responsibilities

• Leads the development of the organization's public policies in strategic portfolio areas (health security, financial resilience and/or consumer/livable communities) and integrates policy across the enterprise to empower departments to deliver on the values embedded in our policy positions.
• Serves as thought leader to continue to position the organization as leading authority on aging.
• Presents policy recommendations to the Board for review, consideration, and approval, utilizing deep knowledge base on issues, highly effective analytic ability, and written and verbal communication skills, and collaborates with senior management in the development of strategic plans.
• Maintains broad subject-matter expertise across strategic portfolio areas of focus and represents the organization at key forums, meetings, and advisory boards. Operates as key internal and external thought leader in driving new and innovative policy approaches across the organization.
• Prioritizes continuous learning on principles and practices of equity and inclusion to ensure these are embedded in all policy development and integration work.
• Serves as an everyday innovator in developing new solutions and methods to achieve significant social impact.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years of relevant experience in Social Security policy.
• Advanced or graduate degree in Public Policy, Economics, Data Sciences, Statistics, Law, or a related field. Doctorate level preferred.
• Proven track record as a subject-matter expert in Social Security policy.
• Experienced in analyzing federal legislative and regulatory proposals, providing objective policy analysis to shape national discussions and inform the organization's strategic engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and illustrate the anticipated impact of various Social Security reform proposals.
• This involves working with results of projection models and the ability to both write for a public audience and visually display the projections.
• Skilled communicator, with extensive publication record and experience speaking before technical and nontechnical audiences
• AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position.
