ROLE / DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Pathstream is seeking a Product Researcher to uncover insights that help us improve our product, expand our business, and progress towards our mission. This role will sit within our Product & Design department and will work closely with product managers, designers, and teams across the company.

We believe that building a successful product and business today requires being highly intentional about understanding our clients and users and how we can best serve them. This role will drive that forward and thus empower all of the teams building the product at Pathstream.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• The Product Researcher role will work cross-functionally to build our knowledge about our market, users, and more.
• As Product Researcher, you'll be accountable for building and maintaining our pipeline of subject matter expert advisors, running a variety of research studies that inform product and curriculum decisions (ranging from landscape scans to usability tests), and keeping our research operations organized so that findings are accessible to the team.
• You'll work with our Product and Design teams to ground feature decisions in real user behavior, running studies that inform what gets built and validating it once it ships. You’ll also work with our  Learning Experience Design team to help ensure courses teach the skills that matter to our clients, translating research findings into curriculum priorities. You’ll also support our GTM teams to surface intel that will help diagnose client needs and address pain points.
• RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
• Plan, conduct, and synthesize research, including: Support early stage exploration of new product areas to understand the key pain points/opportunity areas among our users.
• Run usability testing on product features before release, identifying areas for improvement to the user experience.
• Support early stage exploration of new industries
• Gather input on curriculum as needed from subject matter experts and identify ways we could tailor or make more effective
• Monitor features and curriculum after release to gather insights via quantitative user data, surveys, user interviews, session replays, etc. to see what is working and not working, feeding insights back to the product and curriculum teams
• RESEARCH OPERATIONS
• Contribute to designing our product research processes, proactively identifying where automation or processes changes can increase efficiency without losing quality.
• Build our expert advisor network by sourcing and screening subject matter expert advisors.
• Organize research files and findings so they're accessible to the Pathstream team, and manage the logistics behind research efforts, including scheduling and compensation.
• COLLABORATE
• With project stakeholders, weigh in on how to address specific insights raised in initial research (e.g., help build and user test prototypes)
• Hold relationships with subject matter experts and advisors, and coordinate communication between advisors and the Pathstream stakeholders.
• Serve as a responsive “voice of the customer” for various teams as they build and test new user experiences

ABOUT YOU

EXPERIENCE → CAPABILITIES

3+ years experience in research, data, insights roles such as consulting, venture or impact investing, user research, or similar work involving a portfolio of varied responsibilities → Comfortable working from limited information and familiar with qualitative and quantitative research methods

Experience operating in a startup or on a small team → ownership mindset, ability to run with loosely defined / co-create project requirements, etc.

Experience synthesizing research into actionable insights → ability to effectively translate what users say or what data shows to internal teams making decisions

Experience with ideating and implementing research operations → Familiar with research operations such as managing research repositories, research tooling (survey platforms, user recruitment networks, transcription and tagging tools)

(Bonus) Existing knowledge or experience researching the financial services industry, frontline workers, or both → existing knowledge, ability to connect with users to uncover insights

(Bonus) Experience using latest AI tools relevant to product research and design → ability to help build our AI-driven knowledge base and design system

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and geographic location:

• Tier 1 (NYC metro, San Francisco): $150K-$170K
• Tier 2: $130K-155K
• Tier 3: $115K-140K
