Equipment Operator I - Regional Flood Control at Pima County | LAYIQ

Two years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment/vehicles, which may include street sweepers, water trucks, asphaltic materials distributors, front end loaders, graders/scrapers, bulldozers, backhoes, trenchers, tractors, tractor/semi-trailer combinations and like equipment.
(Completion of a vocational/technical program from an accredited college or technical school in heavy equipment operations may be substituted for six months of the required experience.)

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum four (4) years experience operating heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, loaders, skid steers, and other small equipment; including equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Minimum three (3) years experience performing construction measurements and layout, including grades, elevations, calculations, fence installation, and interpreting plans, blueprints, maps, and utility drawings.
Minimum two (2) years experience working around underground and overhead utilities, including following Arizona 811 procedures and applicable laws and safely working around existing utilities.
Minimum three (3) years experience in metal fabrication and welding, including modifying, repairing, and maintaining metal components, and structures.
Minimum two (2) years experience applying job site safety practices, including identifying hazards, taking corrective action, following OSHA requirements, and safely operating equipment and vehicles.
Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information: Licenses and Certificates :  Valid driver's license is required at the time of application.  Valid  AZ  driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial/promotional probation.  A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required.  For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.  Some positions may require a valid Arizona commercial driver license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing.
Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Physical/Sensory Requirements : Constantly operates and inspects mechanical equipment. Constantly positions self to use, inspect, clean or repair tools and machinery. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across the manufacturing floor. Frequently operates a motor vehicle safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds across the manufacturing floor. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service. Must have valid driver license and clean driving record. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Action Activity - climbing; Motion Activity - simple and firm grasping, fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves and equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person and on the phone; Vision - operate motor vehicle, operate a CDL, operate machinery, operate forklift/power equipment, distinguish colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
Working Conditions : Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration and risk of electrical shock.
