Transportation Claims & Subrogation Specialist

We are seeking a hands-on Transportation Claims & Subrogation Specialist to support our self-insured transportation and logistics operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience handling commercial auto/trucking claims, bodily injury, property damage, liability and subrogation. This role will be responsible for reviewing claims, investigating liability, identifying recovery opportunities, initiating subrogation, and negotiating directly with insurers, adjusters, attorneys and other involved parties.

Responsibilities:

• Review and manage commercial transportation claims involving bodily injury, property damage and liability.
• Investigate accidents and determine liability using police reports, statements, dashcam footage, telematics and supporting documentation.
• Identify and initiate subrogation and recovery opportunities.
• Prepare and issue subrogation demands with supporting evidence and documentation.
• Negotiate disputed liability, recoveries and settlements with insurance carriers, adjusters, attorneys and third parties.
• Establish and maintain appropriate claims reserves and evaluate financial exposure.
• Manage litigated or high-exposure claims in coordination with defense counsel and external vendors.
• Pursue recoveries, contribution and indemnification where applicable.
• Maintain accurate claim documentation and ensure timely follow-up through final resolution.
• Work closely with Safety, Operations, Legal and Risk Management teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of claims experience, preferably within commercial auto, trucking or transportation.
• Strong hands-on experience with subrogation and claims recovery.
• Experience handling bodily injury, property damage and liability claims.
• Strong knowledge of claims investigation and liability assessment.
• Proven negotiation experience with insurers, adjusters, attorneys and other third parties.
• Experience with reserving, settlement evaluation and litigated claims.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to independently manage claims from initial review through settlement or recovery.
• Preferred
• Experience working with a self-insured transportation company, fleet, TPA or large deductible/SIR program.
• Experience handling tractor-trailer or heavy commercial vehicle claims.
• U.S. adjuster licensing, where applicable, is an asset.
