The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Investigator I, Equal Employment & Title IX, UNLV Office of Equal Employment and Title IX [R0153698]
ROLE of the POSITION
Office of Equal Employment and Title IX Investigators are responsible for serving as a member of a team that provides administrative, educational, and intellectual leadership to UNLV to support the University's Equal Opportunity compliance program.
Investigators provide professional and technical support to the Office of Equal Employment and Title IX by investigating and resolving discrimination and/or harassment complaints on the basis of sex, gender, marital status, pregnancy, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or veteran status, and by coordinating conflict resolution efforts. The Office of Equal Employment and Title IX has two investigator positions: Investigator I and Investigator II.
An employee holding the Investigatory I position will generally have less extensive prior investigatory experience and/or less developed knowledge and experience with Title IX, the federal EEO laws, best Human Resources practices, and their application within the context of higher education, than employees in the Investigator II position will have.
1. The Investigator I is expected to prepare an investigative plan. This includes analyzing the claim to determine what witnesses are necessary and to plan the relevant questions to ask each witness. This requires a legal analysis of the claim.
2. The Investigator I is expected to become proficient with Title IX and EEO laws and regulations and be able to analyze facts and evidence to apply such laws and regulations.
3. Communication. The Investigator I is expected to interview witnesses to obtain complete and thorough responses. This requires not only planning the appropriate questions to ask, but listening and asking follow-up questions as necessary. Interpersonal communication skills are critical.
4. The Investigator I is expected to compile the investigative documents and ensure they are saved, correctly processed, and maintained in the office’s case management database
5. The Investigator I is expected to write an investigation report. This will include a synopsis and analysis of the evidence against the policy standard. Grammar and accuracy are critical.
6. Due to the nature of this work, the Investigator I must be able to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner and work effectively within short deadlines, including any investigation deadlines set by statute or regulation.
7. An Investigator must be proficient in completing tasks on a computer. They must be proficient in MS Word / Google Docs software and be able to send and receive email with PDF and Word attachments.
BACKGROUND SCREENING

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelors from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. The position also requires 1-3 years of related experience. Related experience includes: positions involving work substantially focused on Title IX/Equal Employment Opportunity("EEO")/discrimination investigations and/or applying anti-discrimination or EEO laws such as Title IX, Title
VII, Title VI, the ADEA, and/or the ADA: at a higher education institution; in a company's/organization's human resources or employee relations department; for an external anti-discrimination governmental agency; while engaged in the practice of law; as a UNLV Office of Equal Employment and Title IX Analyst; or in some other position where that type of work was substantially performed.
