Position Summary:

The Design and Construction Director (D&C) is responsible for owning client category strategy implementation on our Center of Excellence team. Acting as the accountable category owner, reporting to the Managing Director of Design & Construction, this role executes the strategic direction, owns category planning, and orchestrates delivery through a centralized Center of Excellence (COE) to execute sourcing initiatives and contract negotiations.

The Director serves as a trusted advisor to clients, translating business objectives into actionable category strategies that deliver measurable value.

Responsibilities:

• Client Advisory & D&C Category Leadership
• Serve as the primary strategic category leader and advisor for assigned client and category or categories.
• Partner with client and functional leaders to understand business objectives, constraints, and priorities.
• Translate client goals into clear category strategies, value levels, and execution roadmaps.
• Serve as a Design & Construction expert in the space of sourcing construction sourcing execution, levering skills and experience learned directly in the field. and project specific workflow and management techniques.
• Category Strategy & Planning
• Own the development and ongoing management of category strategies, including market analysis, spend diagnostics, supplier landscape assessments, and risk considerations.
• Lead annual and multi-year category planning, defining initiatives, savings targets, timelines, and success metrics.
• Continuously refine category strategies based on market shifts, client needs, and performance results.
• Center of Excellence (COE) Orchestration
• Leverage a centralized COE to deliver sourcing events, negotiations, and contract execution on behalf of the client.
• Set strategic direction and priorities for COE resources, ensuring alignment to client objectives.
• Provide governance, decision support, and quality oversight throughout sourcing and contracting cycles.
• Support the Design and Construction Managing Director and COE leading partner in creating, developing and executing innovative sourcing execution solutions, internal operational improvements and the creation of sophisticated artifacts such as playbooks, SOP’s, documents, AI adjacent enablers and talent evaluation.
• Sourcing, Negotiation & Contract Outcomes
• Utilize proprietary LogicSource and proven industry best practices to collaborate with client for measurable savings, cost avoidance and competitive sourcing strategies.
• Guide and support negotiation strategies, commercial objectives, and supplier positioning.
• Directly and boldly support complex, high-value, or highly sensitive negotiations.
• Review and support sourcing recommendations, supplier selections, and contract structures to ensure value realization and risk mitigation.
• Analyze the Capital Delivery Supply Chain for specific sourcing and procurement opportunities, propose them to clients, enroll them in acceptance in light of market intelligence, delivery model, means and methods, schedule logic and business needs.
• Value Delivery & Performance Management
• Own category-level performance, including savings, value creation, service levels, and risk outcomes.
• Establish and track KPIs, ensuring transparent reporting and clear communication of results to clients.
• Proactively identify additional opportunities for value, optimization, and innovation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred or equivalent experience determined by hiring manager
• 10+ years of experience in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, Project Advisory Consulting and category management, strategic sourcing, procurement consulting, or outsourced procurement services.
• Demonstrated experience leading D&C category strategy and delivering results in client-facing or advisory settings, healthcare, higher education, retail and life sciences category experience a plus.
• Proven experience managing sourcing and procurement events across the Design and Construction supply chain work flow which spans from conceptual master planning through commissioning, turnover, regulatory and owner acceptance.
• Expertise in California (or other heavily regulated design construction environments) design and construction laws and regulatory requirements, preferred.
• Demonstrated success influencing senior-level executives and stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments.
• Experience managing vendor relationships and supporting high-value contract negotiations.
• Highly skilled in diplomacy, consensus-building, and cross-functional leadership.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong commitment to client service and value creation.
• Desire and aptitude to utilize and adopt AI technologies, LLM’s as an extension of your skills and experience to optimize workflow, project execution and work product.
• Polished communicator and presenter, both formally and informally.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Excel-based financial analysis and PowerPoint presentations, Power BI is a plus.
• Proven experience driving operational transformation and organizational change management.
• Strong problem-solving, judgment, and leadership capabilities.
• Ability to operate strategically while maintaining comfort overseeing execution details.

The listed compensation range reflects the anticipated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on location, experience, and job-related factors, and may include additional benefits consistent with applicable pay transparency laws.

Pay Range

$125,000 — $185,000 USD
