Head of Strategy

Thank you for considering Oklo. We are hiring a Head of Strategy to build and lead our corporate Strategy function.

Position Description

Oklo is seeking a Head of Strategy to serve as the senior leader of the company’s corporate strategy function. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, you will shape Oklo’s enterprise strategy, lead the Strategy team, and help the company make and execute its most consequential decisions.

The function is designed to be proactive and high leverage: identifying emerging opportunities and risks, developing independent points of view, and deploying a focused team against the company’s highest-priority questions and initiatives. You will set the function’s agenda and standards, determine where Strategy resources can have the greatest impact, and lead work from early thesis development through executive decision, execution, and handoff.

You will work directly with the founders, CFO, and business-unit leaders, bringing forward original recommendations, constructively challenging assumptions, and leading the Strategy function’s contribution to executive and Board decisions. You will be accountable for the quality of company-level strategy, the effectiveness of the Strategy function, and the impact of the initiatives it leads.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Build and lead the corporate strategy function.
• Design the function's operating model; hire, develop, and manage talent; allocate resources; and own the standards, quality, and results of the team.
• Own enterprise strategy.
• Lead the development and refinement of Oklo's long-range strategy, including portfolio choices, priority markets, business models, growth platforms, and the allocation of leadership attention and company resources.
• Set a proactive strategic agenda.

Identify important opportunities, risks, and unanswered questions before they are formally assigned. Sponsor the right analysis and recommend what the company should pursue, defer, reshape, or decline.

Lead strategic planning and performance reviews.

Own the Strategy team's delivery of annual and multi-year planning, objectives and key results, scorecards, and initiative reviews.

Shape major corporate choices.

Support the strategic evaluation of partnerships, creative capital initiatives, acquisitions, new ventures, international opportunities, and structural options in collaboration with the relevant business units and functional owners.

Own the strategic-initiative portfolio.

Establish objectives, accountable leaders, milestones, decision points, and review mechanisms. Recommend when to advance, resource, redirect, stop, or hand off work.

Advise executive leadership and the Board.

Bring independent, evidence-based recommendations; challenge assumptions constructively; frame alternatives and tradeoffs; and lead consequential strategic discussions.

Personally lead selected high-stakes initiatives.

Take direct responsibility for a small number of the company's most important initiatives through decision, launch, transaction, or a clear operational handoff.

Integrate strategy across the company.

Partner with Finance, Corporate Development, Strategic Partnerships, Legal, Government Affairs, international teams, technical and regulatory leaders, and business units so company-level choices remain coherent through execution.

Build company-wide strategy capability.

Establish rigorous methods for business cases, decision memos, portfolio reviews, and strategic planning, and coach colleagues to improve the quality and speed of decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience.
• Substantial experience leading corporate strategy, general management, business building, or a comparable enterprise mandate, with a record of shaping company direction and driving implementation.
• Functional and people leadership.
• Demonstrated success building high-performing teams, setting an agenda, developing talent, managing performance, and delivering results through others.
• Executive and Board judgment.
• Experience advising founders, senior executives, or Boards on consequential choices and creating alignment around difficult decisions.
• Commercial and financial depth.
• Strong judgment across business models, partnerships, capital requirements, growth opportunities, portfolio choices, and resource tradeoffs.
• Cross-functional execution.
• A record of leading complex initiatives across functions and business units without relying solely on direct reporting authority.
• Exceptional communication.
• Excellent writing, synthesis, and executive communication, with the credibility to challenge assumptions and represent the company with senior counterparties.
• Bonus Qualifications: Experience building a Strategy function or leading strategy across multiple businesses in a growing, capital-intensive, or regulated company.
• Experience with industrial or technology partnerships, capital formation, international initiatives, acquisitions, or new ventures.
• Experience leading executive and Board strategy work and establishing effective company planning and accountability processes.

About Oklo travel requirements:

Significant travel for executive working sessions, team collaboration, and selected engagements may be required. Oklo requires remote employees to travel to headquarters (Santa Clara, CA) twice a quarter annually, based on business or team needs, including attendance at team meetings, off-sites, and other company events or gatherings. For the first two weeks of onboarding, employees are required to be in person at headquarters in Santa Clara, CA.

About Oklo compensation:

Salary: $275,000–$350,000.

About Oklo Inc.:

Oklo Inc. is developing fast fission power plants to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy at scale; establishing a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes; and advancing nuclear fuel recycling to convert nuclear waste into clean energy. Oklo was the first to receive a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy for a commercial advanced fission plant, was awarded fuel material from Idaho National Laboratory, and submitted the first custom combined license application for an advanced reactor to the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Oklo is also developing advanced fuel recycling technologies in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. National Laboratories.
