Senior Ops Manager - Asia

Summary

The Senior Ops Manager (Asia) leads Enveritas’ operations in India and works across the wider Asia region. You will run India directly — building and operating the country programme yourself — and work alongside other country leads to keep operations strong across the region. You will represent Enveritas to growers, industry bodies and partners, and support the Regional Head of Asia on regional priorities.

This is a role for someone who can be handed a country and trusted with it — you will set the direction, make decisions and resolve problems on their own judgment, escalating what genuinely needs escalating, rather than seeking approval as a default. There is room to grow into wider regional leadership on the strength of what you demonstrate in the first year. The position is ideally based in Singapore, but we are open to strong candidates elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

The Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Building and Running India
• Hold full accountability for Enveritas’ operations in India. This includes: Managing the India operation from the ground up — field teams, vendors, logistics, contracting and ways of working
• Own the India plan, budget and delivery against targets; approve contracts and field expenditure within delegated limits
• Recruit, train and manage the India field team
• Set the standard for data quality and sign off on what leaves the country
• Own the senior relationships in India — estate owners, exporters, the Coffee Board, industry associations and partners
• Surface risks to the Regional Head of Asia early, with a recommended course of action attached
• Regional Operations — Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
• Work alongside regional country leads on planning, budgets, field logistics and data quality
• Review country plans and results with a critical eye; unblock problems the country teams cannot solve alone
• Drive consistency in how operations are run across the region, without flattening what each country needs to do differently
• Step in directly during peak periods, staffing gaps or operational crises
• People Management and Development
• Recruit, develop and retain the India team; set expectations and hold people to them
• Lead hiring for operations roles in the region — scoping, interviewing and onboarding
• Take on line management of country leads over time, as the role establishes
• Build the bench so that countries are not dependent on any one person
• Stakeholder Representation
• Speak for Enveritas with growers, industry bodies, government agencies, partners and clients — without needing a brief for every conversation
• Build and hold senior relationships that outlast individual projects
• Judge what to commit to and what to decline; know when a decision is yours and when it is not
• Regional and Global Contribution
• Represent Asia in global operations projects, cross-regional working groups and strategic reviews
• Contribute to regional strategy and to the annual planning and budget cycle
• Act for the Regional Head of Asia on specific decisions and forums as the role establishes
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FOR

• 8–12 years of relevant experience in operations, programme delivery, consulting or a comparable field, with a substantial portion in roles carrying direct delivery accountability rather than advisory work
• Proven ability to build an operation from scratch with minimal corrective guidance — standing up a country, a function or a field programme where nothing existed before
• Hands-on field operations capability: comfortable personally running logistics, contracting, vendor management and field team recruitment, not only overseeing them
• At least 3 years managing people directly, including managing experienced professionals and giving hard feedback
• A strong academic record from a well-regarded institution, or a clear track record of exceptional work and accomplishment in its place — demonstrated calibre over credentials
• Sound judgment and a sense of proportion — able to tell a real problem from a passing one, and to act without waiting to be told
• ALSO ESSENTIAL
• Credible and composed with senior external stakeholders, from smallholder cooperatives to multinational clients and government officials
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to write a clear memo and hold a difficult conversation
• Strong analytical competencies, with experience working with datasets and deriving insights using data exploration or analysis techniques; instinctively protective of data quality
• Track record of working effectively in fast-paced, multicultural team environments, particularly in independent and remote settings
• A genuine commitment to alleviating poverty and making the world a better place
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Google Workspace; familiarity with quantitative data collection platforms. Proficiency in programming languages, LLMs is a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in development studies, economics, business, statistics, agriculture, or a related discipline; a relevant postgraduate qualification is welcome but not required
• AN ADVANTAGE
• Experience in agriculture, commodities, sustainability, development or research operations; direct coffee or cocoa experience is not required, but genuine interest in the sector is
• Location and Travel
• Ideally based in Singapore; we will consider strong candidates based elsewhere in Southeast Asia
• Availability for regular travel, approximately 30–40 percent of the time, including to remote agricultural regions in India, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and to other countries during their peak periods
