Amazon Optics operates the physical security infrastructure that protects the most sensitive computing environments on Earth: AWS data centers, Amazon corporate offices, and Leo ground stations. We manage more than 600K access control devices and 300K cameras. We integrate video management, access control, and intrusion alarming into one platform, and we strengthen it with AI analytics. Our job is to make every physical space Amazon operates continuously understood, proactively protected, and programmatically extensible.
We are looking for a Principal Product Manager - Technical (PM-T) to own the holistic product strategy for Optics, own its profit and loss (P&L), and drive the platform toward the future state.
You will own the product narrative for the entire Optics platform, comprised of divisions for access control technology, incident response, video surveillance and analytic capabilities. You will define the product strategy that replaces a fragmented customer ecosystem with an automated, extensible platform, and you will sequence the investments that get us there.
You will make sure Optics serves its internal customers first while shaping the platform foundations that keep our longer-term options open. You will partner directly with the Optics organization leader, with directors and VPs across our customer organizations, and with security and infrastructure leaders throughout Amazon. You will operate where product strategy, physical security, and platform architecture meet.
The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who is comfortable with deep technical ambiguity, fluent in translating customer problems into product requirements, financially literate enough to own a P&L and defend a cost model, and credible with both principal engineers and VP-level stakeholders.

A day in the life
Your days blend deep strategic work, customer discovery, financial modeling, and cross-organizational partnership. No two look the same, but a representative day includes:
Morning - You block your first hours for the work that needs uninterrupted focus: drafting the product strategy narrative for an upcoming leadership review.
Mid-morning - You meet with your finance partner to pressure-test the P&L and refine the cost-per-site model, reconciling the savings that our first-party hardware and quantifying the opportunity cost of deferring the platform investment another quarter.
Afternoon - You meet with a director from a customer organization and a peer leader from an adjacent Amazon infrastructure team.
Late afternoon - You review the platform's product and business health metrics. Cost per site is trending the right way. You draft the mechanism to track it so the signal reaches the right people to make business decisions, and close the loop with engineering to ensure the target goal is achieved.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
Experience technical product management
10+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience
Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product
Experience working with and influencing senior level stakeholders
3+ years of P&L management and pricing experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements
Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
