Amazon’s massive software deployment system, Apollo, is a core part of Amazon and AWS high availability and expansion, enabling thousands of distributed software services running on millions of servers with constantly-updating software and no downtime.
We are looking for a Software Development Manager who will have the opportunity to attract and lead a team of Software Development Engineers that will expand Apollo into new AWS locations, and scale it to assure the operational success of the systems used to deploy some of the largest cloud services on the planet, such as EC2, S3, DynamoDB, and the thousands of services behind Amazon’s consumer brands.

A Software Development Manager in our team will play a critical role in shaping the roadmap for the expansion of Apollo. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key job responsibilities
Manage the design and implementation of software solutions and infrastructure builds and transitions, including including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring
Hands-on development of your team. Mentor, coach and grow highly talented engineers. Train engineers on best practices and drive operational excellence.
Partner with stakeholders and peer teams to align on priorities, influence roadmaps, and deliver cohesive solutions that create measurable customer value at scale.
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
