The Site Tech II is responsible for small projects, mowing, weed eating, seeding, planting, weed control, equipment maintenance, snow, and ice control, asphalt or concrete work, brick or stonework, demolition, grading and/or site cleanup tasks. As well as, all the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds of Liberty University. Operates lawn mowers, and other related equipment. Any other duties as assigned. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As Essential Personnel, you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Grounds employees are essential to the overall success of Commencement (May) and Orientation and Move-in (August) weekend events and special events that are scheduled in facilities throughout the year and must be available to work schedule and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.
Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.
Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor or Site Technician III/ Lead.
Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while operating Grounds related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.
Works with 2-3 employees.
Performs planting and related activities.
Performs routine lawn maintenance including grass cutting, lawn edging, pulling weeds, and other routine lawn-maintenance activities. Uses lawn mower and related equipment.
Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fall clean-up.
Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties to assist in landscaping and hardscaping.
Digs holes and trenches and excavates for landscaping and hardscaping using picks and shovels or related equipment.
Hauls or spreads topsoil, gravel, sand, mulch, or related materials using wheelbarrows and rakes.
Hand -finishes grade, and apply seed, straw, or sod.
Applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemical applicator.
Maintains assigned equipment and notifies Landscaping Supervisor of needed repairs. Responds politely to customer inquiries and projects a professional image.
Operates light/ heavy-duty vehicles, riding mowers, backhoes, and push/ riding mowers, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chain saws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipment associated with turf care.
For a project to be considered completed, the Site Technician II must ensure that the project has been fully inspected; all equipment, tools, and materials have been secured and put away; all blockades, ropes, and tape have been removed.
Performs Grounds duties including weeding, mowing, trimming, edging, planting and other related ground maintenance activities.
Responsible for proper and safe use and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and chemicals related to the Grounds team.
Works closely with the entire Landscaping/ Grounds Teams on all phases of ground maintenance including weeding, mulching, and all other related tasks.
Work with Grounds team, as assigned, when needed to support new plantings and plant removals.
Works on special projects as assigned.
All other duties as assigned.
Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, process, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
This position might require the use of and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights.
Have or be able to obtain a chemical spray certification. Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve.
Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.

Must be able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of grounds maintenance and landscaping outdoors in typical Virginia climate.
Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to stand for long periods.
Must be able to perform physically demanding work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, and standing, walking and driving.

Driving Requirements
If the employee is required to travel in the performance of the duties and responsibilities of the position, the use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required only when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure.
The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits , including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.
