About Yousician
Yousician builds apps that teach the world to play music: Yousician (guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, singing) and GuitarTuna. Licensed music sits at the core of the product: the songs, notation, and lyrics our users learn from every day.
Why this role exists
This role is the backbone of our licensing operations: the person who keeps track of renewals, rights administration, and royalty reporting day to day, while also supporting strategy, deal negotiations, and rightsholder relationships. You will also bring AI and automation fluency to the team.
What you will do
Single source of truth for rights: Build and maintain one trusted record of our agreements, including key terms, renewal dates, exclusions and amendments, so we can make decisions about our catalogue quickly.
Licensing economics: Model how licensing affects the business, including royalty costs against revenue and margin, working with our content team on which licensed content drives engagement and conversion, and cost forecasts for upcoming deals.
Automation & AI: Find where manual reconciliation, reporting and follow-up can be automated, and build those improvements.
Deal analysis: With Finance, benchmark proposed terms against existing deals and recommend commercial terms for negotiations and renewals.
Royalty reporting: Manage the day-to-day relationship with our royalty reporting partner. This includes reconciling reports, checking royalty and invoice calculations, and resolving delays in claims and payouts.
Rights clearance: Set up automated monitoring of license status, and resolve clearance or takedown issues.
Renewals: Own the renewal calendar, move routine renewals forward, and prepare analyses for strategic decisions by management.
Cross-functional work: Work closely with Licensing, Finance and Operations, and with Product/Content and Data/Engineering on catalogue priorities and reporting pipelines.
What you have done
2+ years in an analytical role such as FP&A, business operations, revenue operations, data analytics or royalty operations, ideally at a digital product company.
Built financial or operational models that leaders used to make decisions.
Strong data skills: advanced spreadsheets and SQL, plus experience with a BI tool (e.g. Metabase, Looker), ideally a planning tool such as Pigment.
Automated manual work using AI, scripts or no-code tools. You can point to a real process you made faster.
Comfortable with financial reconciliation, including accruals, invoice checks and how revenue and costs flow through the P&L.
Turned messy data from several sources into a clean, trusted dataset.
Run several workstreams with Finance and other teams at once without things slipping.
Strong signals
Experience working with music publishers, PROs/CMOs, collection societies, record labels, or other rightsholders in a licensing or royalty-related capacity.
Practical, hands-on experience using AI tools to improve operational workflows, such as reconciliation, contract analysis, data processing, or reporting.
Good understanding of the music rights and royalty ecosystem, including PROs/CMOs, publishers, labels, and other rightsholders, and how different licensing and royalty processes work.
What this role is not
Not a data-entry or back-office role. You will use judgment on commercial terms, stakeholders and priorities.
Not a role for waiting on instructions. You set your own priorities and go beyond the day to day. You look past immediate fixes to long-term improvements, and bring leadership recommendations on where licensing should go next.
Not a legal role, and not the final owner of licensing strategy or deal sign-off. You shape those decisions with data and recommendations.
