Role and Team
As an ADESA General Sales Manager, you will be a true sales leader and business developer. You will lead by example, generate new business, close deals, grow the auction’s buyer and seller base, and develop a high performing sales team to achieve and exceed expectations. General Sales Managers should have a strong understanding of the sales process, sales metrics, customer relationships, and compensation while being comfortable working both in the market and within the auction.
The General Sales Manager typically leads a team of Inside Sales Representatives and Outside Sales Representatives. The GSM partners closely with the Outside Sales team to identify and develop new Independent and Franchise Dealer relationships, increase consignment opportunities, and bring additional inventory into ADESA’s physical auction lanes and digital platforms.
The GSM is also responsible for helping grow the auction’s buyer base by partnering with the sales team to identify potential buyers, introducing dealers to ADESA Clear and other digital solutions, and communicating with buyers about available inventory and upcoming consignment opportunities.
The GSM should be actively engaged with both buyers and sellers to understand their needs and create opportunities that drive overall auction growth.
A committed General Sales Manager is dedicated to recruiting, retaining, coaching, and developing Sales Representatives. General Sales Managers execute the overall sales strategy, establish clear expectations, monitor performance, and inspire their teams to achieve sales and business objectives.
You will contribute to the growth and success of ADESA in an innovative and fast paced environment as a valued leader within the ADESA community.
Responsibilities
Generate new business leads, develop customer relationships, and close new business
Lead and execute ADESA’s overall Dealer Sales strategy
Manage, coach, and develop Inside and Outside Sales Representatives
Partner with Outside Sales Representatives to identify new Independent and Franchise Dealer opportunities
Develop new consignment opportunities and increase vehicle volume through ADESA’s physical auction lanes and digital platforms
Help grow the auction’s buyer base by identifying and developing relationships with potential buyers
Introduce potential buyers to ADESA Clear and other ADESA digital solutions
Communicate with buyers about available inventory, upcoming sales, and potential consignment opportunities
Build and maintain strong relationships with dealers, buyers, consignors, and other business partners
Monitor sales performance, business metrics, and team activity to identify opportunities for growth
Effectively execute sales strategies and hold the sales team accountable to performance objectives
Influence and lead others as a people, customer, and business manager
Engage with customers and employees in a transparent, reliable, and positive manner
Demonstrate strong knowledge of ADESA products, services, auction operations, and digital platforms
Maximize technology and available sales tools to drive business growth
Recruit, retain, coach, and develop high performing sales talent
Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to sales team members
Effectively resolve customer and employee conflicts
Maintain a positive, motivating, and encouraging team environment
Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
Be detail oriented, accurate, and consistent
Maintain a sales focused, organized, and systematic approach to business development and customer management

Qualifications
High School or GED required
College education preferred
Two or more years of supervisory experience
Successful previous experience as a sales manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets
Qualified to operate a motor vehicle and possesses a valid driver’s license
Automotive experience preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong multitasking skills along with the ability to adapt to changing work environments
Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license and meet corporate driving standards
