Position Summary

Apex Companies is seeking a Systems Administrator I to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and reliability of enterprise infrastructure platforms. This early-career role performs routine systems administration, monitoring, patching, backup validation, Active Directory support, technical troubleshooting, and documentation under the direction of senior infrastructure engineers.

The position is well suited for an IT professional who wants to build hands-on enterprise experience across Windows systems, virtualization, infrastructure operations, automation, cloud technologies, and acquisition integration activities.

What You’ll Do

• Infrastructure Operations
• Support Windows Server environments and other enterprise infrastructure systems.
• Perform routine systems maintenance using approved procedures and technical runbooks.
• Assist with server provisioning, software configuration, upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning.
• Support virtualization platforms and virtual-machine lifecycle activities under senior-engineer guidance.
• Participate in approved maintenance windows and change implementations.
• Maintain accurate infrastructure inventories, equipment records, and system documentation.
• Monitoring, Backup, and Patching
• Review infrastructure monitoring dashboards and perform initial alert validation.
• Monitor backup-job results, document exceptions, and escalate failures appropriately.
• Assist with approved restore testing and disaster-recovery readiness activities.
• Execute routine server patching during established maintenance windows.
• Validate system availability after maintenance and document the results.
• Active Directory and Core Services
• Perform routine Active Directory administration using approved procedures.
• Support user, computer, group, and organizational-unit maintenance.
• Assist with basic DNS and DHCP administration and troubleshooting.
• Support certificate inventory, expiration tracking, and renewal coordination.
• Maintain service-account and configuration records.
• Incident Support and Documentation
• Investigate routine infrastructure incidents and service requests.
• Document troubleshooting actions, findings, and resolutions in the IT service management platform.
• Escalate complex, high-risk, or business-impacting issues to the appropriate service owner.
• Create and maintain knowledge articles, checklists, and operating procedures.
• Participate in team cross-training, operational triage, and continual-improvement activities.
• Projects and Acquisition Integration
• Execute assigned tasks from approved infrastructure, migration, and acquisition checklists.
• Assist with discovery, inventory validation, readiness reviews, and data collection.
• Support cutover validation and post-change monitoring under guidance from project and technical leads.

What We’re Looking For

• Required Qualifications
• High school diploma.
• Up to four years of relevant IT support or infrastructure experience.
• Two years of college coursework, technical training, or trade-school education in information technology, computer systems, networking, cybersecurity, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
• Basic troubleshooting ability for workstations, operating systems, software, and infrastructure services.
• Ability to follow technical procedures, manage assigned work, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
• Commitment to following Apex information-security policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship, help desk, desktop support, lab, or junior systems administration experience.
• Exposure to Windows Server, virtualization, backup, monitoring, or patch-management tools.
• Introductory PowerShell or other scripting experience.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or Microsoft 365 administration.
• CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or another entry-level IT certification.
• Experience creating technical documentation or support procedures.

What Success Looks Like

Reliably complete routine maintenance, monitoring, backup, and patching tasks using approved procedures.

Resolve basic Windows, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and software issues and escalate appropriately.

Maintain clear, accurate, and current operational documentation.

Contribute effectively to incident triage, infrastructure projects, and acquisition-support activities.

Develop supervised competency in Windows Server, virtualization, monitoring, backup, and PowerShell.

Progress toward Systems Administrator II responsibilities through demonstrated technical growth and operational independence.

$51,000 — $85,000 USD
