Responsibilities Medical Assistant- Surgery ENT Capital Medical Group | Independence Physician Management (IPM), a UHS Subsidiary Onsite | 2300 M St NW- Washington, DC 20037 Capital Medical Group is a newly acquired physician practice group within Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS. We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Assistant to support our Surgery ENT practice and provide high-quality clinical and administrative support to patients and providers.

Perform administrative duties as assigned by physician. Qualifications Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manages patient preparation by assisting physicians and/or registered nurses by taking and recording patient histories, height, weight, vital signs Prepares patient for examination by preparing for various specimen collections. Administers oral and injectable (intramuscular and subcutaneous) as prescribed by the physician. Competency must be demonstrated to a registered nurse prior to performing such function.
Has knowledge of medication actions, proper dosing & side effect Assist physicians with minor procedures. Proficient with sterile technique. Explains tests and procedures including pre & post-op instructions to patients. Retrieves lab results and surgical path reports from computer (as well as reference labs) and communicates results/ data to physician and/or registered nurse. Notifies reference labs for specimen pick-up. Orders lab supplies as directed by registered nurse.
Keeps up to date with what insurance company participates with what lab for specimen collections. Performs sterilization of instruments as necessary and ensures valid expiration date. Reviews progress notes in patient's chart to prepare for clinic visit. Prepares forms for use during patient visit. Records height weight, vital signs & “Meaningful Use” into patients’ medical record.
Has knowledge of EMR usage Schedules patient appointments for radiology (including CT-scan, MRI, ultrasound), Cytopathology (fine needle aspiration), vascular lab, etc. Completes appropriate forms, gives patient instruction and forms, and records information inpatients chart. Answers the telephone and transfers calls to appropriate personnel. Triage calls by obtaining pertinent information from caller & present info to physician/ RN for appropriate decision making Remove sutures/staples as requested by physicians.
Competency must be demonstrated to your clinical manager. Performs simple and complex wound care, including irrigations with clean and sterile dressing changes. Able to remove and repack deep wound dressings as directed by physician. Provides a clean environment for clinic and provides for inventory and proper care of equipment. Takes inventory of supplies, equipment and medication. Responsible for ordering and seeing that necessary supplies/equipment is available and/or in proper working order for clinic.
Maintains and improves knowledge and expertise through continuing training, to include CPR certification. Conducts computerized and on-line research as needed to support ongoing and future research projects May observe and review surgical procedures to ensure knowledge base Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program required. Certification Current BLS/CPR/AED certification required. Certification and Registration as a Medical Assistant required.
Experience Minimum of one year of Medical Assistant experience required. Two to three years experience of general patient care (i.e. hospital, physician’s office or ambulatory care setting) preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach in an ambulatory healthcare environment. Ability to assist with patient positioning and mobility as required. Ability to occasionally lift or carry and frequently push or pull up to 100 pounds as required by the role.
Ability to work in healthcare environments that may require personal protective equipment (PPE). Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers, medical equipment, and other equipment required for the position.
