LAYIQ - PHLEBOTOMIST IP (PART TIME DAY SHIFT) at Covenant HealthCare

D emonstrates a positive attitude in the workplace showing dependability, cooperation, and desire to produce the most accurate, timely and cost effective results attainable.
A ssists in the training of new employees under direct control of the Coordinator or Lead.
P erforms other related duties as assigned.
P erforms all necessary clerical duties including, but not limited to logging into and answering vocera, answering telephones and logging specimens collection.
M aintains proper communication with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory personnel, coworkers, Coordinators, Leads and Managers.
F ollows laboratory procedures for specimen collection and suitability for testing.(Perform waived tests ordered by a physician or authorized personnel using approved methodology.)
M aintains records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
A dheres to the laboratory quality control policiesas it pertains to moderate complex testing.
D ocument all activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed including troubleshooting.
C apable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
I mmediately notify the General Supervisor or designated Laboratory Charge Medical Technologist who will correct the problem or immediately notify the Coordinator or Lead.
C omplies with all Covenant and Laboratory policies, procedures and safety practices.
D emonstrate working knowledge of appropriate safety protocol to include universal precautions, GHS safety program, use of personal protective equipment in designated areas, and perform proper hand washing techniques.
C ollects all specimens by venipuncture and skin puncture technique upon physician order in a timely fashion utilizing proper technique.
A ssists nursing with blood draws from venous access devices.
P roperly identifies patients according to the patient identification procedure at all times.
I nspects all specimens prior to transport, for proper labeling requirements and specimen type.
T ransports specimens in a timely manner via the most appropriate method to ensure turn-around-time is met utilizing the pneumatic tube system or physical transportation to the Laboratory.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
High School education or equivalent.
College level Biology or Chemistry (Preferred)
CREDENTIALS
ASCP Phlebotomy certification within 6 months of hire preferred.
Current ASCP or NHA Phlebotomy certification (and continued maintenance)
SKILLS
LIS Applications, strong verbal and communication skills.
EXPERIENCE
Completion of a NACCLS approved or two-part formal phlebotomy program, with documenting of 100 (minimum) successful venipuncture collections obtained during clinical rotation preferred.

-3 years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
K nowledge of Computer Applications, strong verbal and communication skills.
D emonstrate a positive attitude in the workplace showing dependability, cooperation and desire to produce the most accurate, timely and cost effective results attainable.

A bility to adapt and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
