At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits.
This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.
Principal Scientist, Translational Informatics and Predictive Sciences
When you join BMS, you are joining a high-achieving team united by a common mission.
The Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) mission is to Pioneer, Partner and Predict to drive transformative insights for patient benefit. IPS conducts applied computational research in areas that include genomic, structural and molecular informatics, computational and systems biology, patient selection and translational biomarker research, and broader fields including knowledge science, epidemiology and machine learning—across the full lifecycle of drug discovery and development and across all therapeutic areas at BMS.
We do this in close partnership with scientific and clinical experts in the field, both inside and outside the company. We perform innovative science to empower key data-driven decisions across a rich pipeline of next-generation medicines. In doing so, our work transforms the lives of patients, as well as our own lives and careers.
Here, you’ll get the chance to grow and thrive through opportunities that are uncommon in scale and scope. You’ll pursue innovative ideas while advancing professionally alongside some of the brightest minds in biopharma.
The Principal Scientist will apply cutting-edge bioinformatics, statistical, modeling, and computational biology approaches to analyze large-scale clinical datasets and drive translational insights across the BMS solid tumor oncology portfolio. This role focuses on both clinical and real-world patient datasets to discover biomarkers, elucidate disease biology, and inform development strategies for the pipeline.
The Principal Scientist will have a direct impact on advancing therapies for patients and accelerating scientific understanding of disease biology and therapeutic response.
Essential to this role are the ability to harness the potential of AI, to translate data and analysis into scientific impact, and to think creatively about complex scientific problems.
Position Responsibilities
You will partner with biomarker scientists, clinical development teams, and preclinical researchers to design and execute computational strategies for clinical and translational studies.
You will analyze high-dimensional molecular datasets to generate mechanistic insights into treatment response and resistance.
You will apply and/or develop ML/AI methods to extract patterns from multi-omics and real-world datasets, including predictive modeling, feature selection, and data integration across modalities.
You will provide scientific leadership and mentorship, shaping analytical best practices and elevating the use of AI-enabled approaches across the team.
You will communicate scientific results clearly and persuasively to decision-making bodies across R&D, translating complex analyses into actionable recommendations that influence cross-functional strategy.
Experience with high-throughput molecular data, such as next-generation sequencing, single-cell technologies, proteomics, or others.
Proficiency in R and/or Python, with a demonstrated ability to leverage AI in scientific work, including hands-on experience with agentic AI coding tools.
Strong understanding of fundamental statistical methods.
Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning.
Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and scientific rigor.
Excellent communication, data visualization, and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate your work and influence cross-functionally.
