Job Information
The Union Low Voltage Electrician Network and Fiber Optic Cabling is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining structured cabling systems, including copper (Cat5e/6/6A) and fiber optic infrastructure, in support of network and telecommunications systems at institutional sites.
Working independently on most assignments, this journeyman-level electrician demonstrates strong technical expertise in cable pathway design, termination standards, fiber splicing and testing, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable, code-compliant network connectivity across campus facilities.
High school diploma or GED required.
No prior professional experience required; enrollment in, or eligibility for, a registered IBEW apprenticeship program is required.
Exposure to or coursework in low-voltage, network, or fiber optic cabling preferred.
Background in an institutional, medical center, or academic environment is a plus.
Enrollment in I.B.E.W. Local 134 apprenticeship program (Electrical B card) required.
Valid driver's license required.
Basic proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) for data entry and documentation within internal applications.
Familiarity with hand and power tools used in low-voltage cabling installation.
Works across a variety of environments with exposure to confined spaces and heights.
Lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and work on ladders.
May be required to travel between University and Medical Center campus job sites.
