Scope of work
Sterile Processing professionals are responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, and distributing medical and surgical instrumentation. They are among the most vital contributors to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Work performed in the Sterile Processing department usually follows a processing cycle. Decontam>Inspect>Assembly>Package>Sterilize>Inspect>Store>Inspect >Dispense.
After use, items that can be reprocessed are returned to the decontamination area to start the process all over again, it is important to note that at each step in the process, items are inspected to ensure that they are clean, in good repair, assembled, and processed correctly. Sterile Processing Techs are also involved in the record keeping and tracking process across many different functions of their jobs. They must provide properly processed products when they are needed. The patient must be the center of every quality concern.
