From Indian Creek School's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Indian Creek School is an independent, co-ed day school in which 600 students age 3 to Grade 12 partner with innovative teachers in an outstanding educational program. Located on a beautiful, 114-acre campus in Crownsville, Maryland (just north of Annapolis), ICS students are nurtured and known as individuals while being challenged to discover their passions, purpose, and potential.
The School's vision statement reads: Indian Creek is the premier independent school in the Annapolis area where kindness is currency, well-being is priority, and excellence in education is relentlessly pursued. The Indian Creek community is actively committed to diversity, equity, and belonging, and we foster an inclusive environment in which students feel understood, valued, respected, and affirmed.
ICS seeks faculty and staff who support our mission and values, who are committed to nurturing learners as individuals, and who are looking to join a vibrant community of professionals who are passionate about education. Faculty and staff are offered meaningful opportunities for professional growth. Because we are a small school, every member of our community plays a critical role in making sure the institution lives up to its mission.
This position is full time, 12 months and reports to the Director of Facilities. The preferred schedule is 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; however, the School is open to discussing a later eight-hour shift with a qualified candidate.
This position works around students during the school day. The associate must maintain appropriate professional boundaries, follow school policies on student safety and conduct, and arrange work so that tools, chemicals, and active work areas are secured and instruction is disrupted as little as possible. The employee must complete required school training and follow applicable Maryland reporting obligations. Indian Creek School welcomes candidates who will contribute to an inclusive and respectful school community.
Primary Responsibilities
Buildings and work orders
Check spaces, doors, and entry points at the start of the day and throughout the shift; correct routine issues, make hazards safe when possible, and report safety or security concerns promptly.
Perform minor carpentry, patching and painting, furniture adjustments, and repairs to doors, hardware, fixtures, and basic plumbing; replace lamps, filters, and similar components.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance and use FMX to receive and prioritize work orders, record completed work, update requestors, and document follow-up needs or parts required.
Assist with contractor access, site preparation, and follow-up for outside repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities.
Events and campus safety
Set up and break down tables, chairs, equipment, and spaces for assemblies, athletics, school events, and facility rentals; coordinate work around classes and the changing school calendar.
Help prepare for and respond to snow, ice, severe weather, and facility emergencies; support drills and campus operations.
Follow Indian Creek School standard operating procedures, recognized maintenance practices, and applicable OSHA and other safety requirements. Use tools and materials safely, secure work areas around students, and complete all required training as directed by the Director of Facilities.
Grounds and daily operations
Support the dedicated grounds crew as needed with entrances, walkways, parking areas, outdoor spaces, athletic fields, and seasonal grounds tasks, including snow and ice removal.
Supplement the cleaning teams when needed, including spill response, waste and recycling removal, cleaning and sanitizing spaces, and replenishing supplies.
Move and arrange classroom and office furniture, supplies, and equipment; help with receiving and placing deliveries when needed.
This is a 12-month, full-time hourly position for an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required, as occasional early morning, evening, weekend, overtime, or weather-related work may be needed for events, athletics, snow removal, campus emergencies, or other operational needs. The position involves extended standing and walking; bending, kneeling, reaching, and ladder use; working indoors and outdoors in varying Maryland weather; and safely operating maintenance and grounds equipment.
The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move heavier items with assistance or equipment.
