From Western Union's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Western Union is hiring a Vice President, Digital Wallet to lead the digital wallet portfolio within our broader Global Digital Product & Platform strategy. This executive will translate our modernization vision into a differentiated, secure, and scalable wallet proposition that advances customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Product & Platform, you will own the wallet strategy, multi-year roadmap, business model, investment priorities, and operating performance. You will ensure the wallet integrates effectively with shared platform capabilities, including mobile applications, customer identity, payments, fraud prevention, APIs, data, and emerging financial services.
We are looking for a strategic product and payments leader who can move from vision to scaled execution. The ideal leader brings deep digital wallet, payments, platform, and customer experience expertise; strong commercial and financial acumen; and the ability to align Product, Technology, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and regional teams in a complex global environment.
Role Responsibilities
Own the global digital wallet strategy, customer value proposition, priority segments, business model, product vision, investment priorities, and 1- to 2-year roadmap.
Align wallet priorities with enterprise objectives for customer growth, digital adoption, engagement, retention, revenue, and operational efficiency.
Lead end-to-end product and platform execution across discovery, prioritization, design, engineering, release planning, go-to-market readiness, launch, scaling, and lifecycle optimization.
Oversee wallet experiences and enabling capabilities, including APIs, data, ledger, settlement, reconciliation, identity, tokenization, authentication, fraud controls, and partner integrations.
Own the end-to-end operating performance of the wallet portfolio, including wallet operations, escalation resolution, account closures, escheatment, disputes, and other supporting processes, while partnering across Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Technology to improve controls, customer outcomes, and operational efficiency.
Act as the product operational subject matter expert for account origination, account lifecycle management, payments, settlement, clearing, and reconciliation. Manage internal and external product operations, ensuring seamless integration and performance across multiple channels.
Ensure all products and operations are compliant with relevant regulations (e.g., BSA/AML, Reg E, Reg Z, NACHA, PCI DSS) and industry standards.
Ensure the wallet roadmap leverages and informs shared platform capabilities across mobile applications, payments, customer identity, fraud and risk management, APIs, and customer engagement.
Own portfolio outcomes across acquisition, activation, monthly active users, retention, transaction frequency and value, revenue, margin, and cost to serve.
Use customer insights, market intelligence, experimentation, emerging technologies, and AI-enabled capabilities to improve the customer experience and strengthen competitive differentiation.
Establish an executive scorecard and operating cadence, using performance reviews to remove friction, improve conversion, strengthen unit economics, and reallocate investment to the highest-value opportunities.
Partner with Technology, Compliance, Privacy, Fraud, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Risk, Treasury, Operations, Marketing, Finance, and regional leaders to embed controls throughout the wallet lifecycle.
Ensure launches and material changes meet applicable regulatory, financial crime, consumer protection, data, technology, operational readiness, and resilience requirements.
Develop Directors and Managers, build succession and talent depth, establish clear accountabilities, and foster an empowered, inclusive, customer-centric culture.
Own and manage strategic relationships with payment networks, financial institutions, sponsor banks, technology providers, fintechs, merchants, and other ecosystem partners, including partner selection, commercial negotiations, contracting, integration, performance management, and ongoing relationship governance.
Role Requirement
12+ years of progressive experience in product management, platform strategy, payments, fintech, digital commerce, or a related financial services discipline.
5+ years of experience leading leaders or multidisciplinary product organizations.
Demonstrated experience owning a major product portfolio or platform from strategy through scaled commercialization across multiple markets.
Deep expertise in digital wallets, payments product strategy, platform roadmaps, customer journeys, product discovery, business cases, portfolio economics, product analytics, experimentation, and agile delivery.
Strong understanding of payment authorization, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, APIs, partner integrations, tokenization, authentication, identity, fraud, privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory risk.
Working knowledge of cloud architecture concepts, data platforms, mobile ecosystems, open banking, and cross-border payment models.
Proven ability to translate customer, competitive, technical, financial, operational, and regulatory inputs into clear priorities and scalable decisions.
Strong enterprise leadership, executive communication, stakeholder influence, negotiation, financial acumen, change leadership, talent development, and decision-making under ambiguity.
Demonstrated success leading across cross-functional, global, and matrixed environments.
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, technology, engineering, economics, or a related field required. Equivalent directly relevant professional experience may be considered where permitted.
Compensation
The on-target earnings range is $480,000-$520,000 per year, which includes a base salary and short-term and long-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
