Support the electrical prefab operation by producing safe, consistent, and code-compliant MIG-welded assemblies. This position is responsible for welding, material preparation, fabrication, quality control, and maintaining a safe and efficient shop environment. When welding is not required, the Prefab MIG Welder will assist with other electrical prefab activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Perform MIG welding on assigned prefab assemblies according to approved shop drawings, sketches, and work instructions.
Cut, measure, fit, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication.
Produce consistent welds with proper fusion and penetration while minimizing spatter and controlling heat input to reduce distortion.
Safely operate, inspect, and maintain welding and fabrication equipment, including: MIG welders
Hydraulic punches
Shears and brakes
Cutoff and grinding wheels
Oxy-acetylene torches
Die grinders
Drill presses
Vises
Hand tools and measuring equipment
Select and use the appropriate materials, tools, and welding techniques for each application.
Measure and inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet required dimensions, tolerances, drawings, and quality standards.
Identify potential design or fabrication improvements and provide recommendations to improve product quality, efficiency, and manufacturability.
Communicate material and supply needs, including steel, welding wire, tips, nozzles, shielding gas, clamps, and replacement parts, to prevent unnecessary downtime.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Identify and report equipment, material, quality, or safety issues promptly.
Support lean manufacturing and prefab efficiency initiatives.
Assist with other electrical prefab and fabrication activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the operation.
Requirements
Safety-minded with a strong commitment to safe work practices.
MIG Welder Certification required.
Experience operating, maintaining, and performing basic repairs on welding and fabrication equipment.
Ability to read and interpret basic shop drawings, sketches, and work instructions.
Ability to accurately measure and work with basic dimensions and tolerances.
Basic math skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Good organization, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team.
Self-motivated, proactive, and dependable.
Ability to lift and carry materials and remain on your feet for extended periods in a shop environment.
Willingness to support lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and prefab efficiency initiatives.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in an electrical prefab/shop environment.
Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working with tools and equipment.
Must be able to safely lift, carry, and maneuver materials used in the fabrication process.
Must follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and applicable welding/shop safety procedures.
