Serve as stewards of the University's facilities, lands and environment by supporting long range planning strategies; university planning, siting and locating facilities; planning and guidelines; university infrastructure, resource protection; and advocating responsible land use through sustainable design practices.
Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is the operational core of Stanford University’s physical campus. LBRE constructs and maintains the Stanford campus, where advancements across the academic spectrum are made possible. Our work is founded upon the collective value of dedication, innovation, expertise, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
We are committed to serving the university’s academic mission, as well as preserving and enhancing Stanford’s 8,180 acres, and pride ourselves on supporting the teaching and research of the university as “Caretakers of a LEGACY."
As caretakers of a legacy, the University Architect/Campus Planning and Design office (UA/CPD)
The University Landscape Architect partners with the University Architect to establish a clear campus planning framework, leads a team of planners and landscape architects to provide direction on landscape design for significant capital projects, collaborates with team members to develop the Stanford Infrastructure Program for campus connective elements (SIP-C), and leads efforts to develop vibrant campus places that support the culture of the Stanford community. The University Landscape Architect works with architects, consultants,
and university colleagues in Grounds & Maintenance, Sustainability, Transportation, Utilities and Water, Athletics & Recreation, Housing, and all of the academic schools and units to advocate for placemaking that supports the university mission. The University Landscape Architect develops conceptual designs for specific campus improvements including landscape plantings, tree relocation, malls, courtyards, plazas, outdoor lighting, art, and travel routes and parking for vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians.
