What you'll do:
The Principal Technical Program Manager - Data Products is a senior individual contributor responsible for shaping and executing QXO's strategic data product portfolio across multiple federated data engineering teams. This role translates enterprise business priorities into a coordinated book of work and drives the end-to-end planning, sequencing, execution, and delivery of high-impact data products that power analytics, operational decision-making, AI, and automation across the enterprise.
Operating at the intersection of business strategy, data engineering, architecture, and delivery, the Principal Technical Program Manager partners closely with Business Data Domain Owners, technology leaders, engineering teams, architects, governance, analytics, and other stakeholders to define priorities, establish delivery plans, manage cross-team dependencies, and ensure successful execution.
Unlike a traditional project management role, this position plays an active role in shaping the data product book of work, helping translate business demand into well-defined data product initiatives, evaluating readiness and dependencies, sequencing investments, and driving delivery across a federated engineering model.
The Principal Technical Program Manager provides the connective tissue across business domains and engineering teams, creating transparency, accountability, and predictable execution while enabling individual domain teams to retain ownership of their data products and technical solutions
Shape and maintain the enterprise data product book of work, partnering with Business Data Domain Owners, Data & Analytics leadership, engineering leaders, and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into executable initiatives.
Lead end-to-end program execution for strategic data products across multiple federated data engineering teams, from initial definition and planning through development, release, adoption, and stabilization.
Translate business objectives and data needs into clearly defined initiatives, delivery scope, milestones, dependencies, sequencing, resource requirements, and measurable outcomes.
Partner with Data Domain Owners and engineering teams to evaluate incoming demand, establish delivery readiness, identify dependencies, and prioritize work based on business value, urgency, technical feasibility, capacity, and strategic alignment.
Develop and maintain integrated program plans, roadmaps, milestones, delivery forecasts, dependency maps, RAID logs, release plans, and executive-level status reporting.
Drive backlog and portfolio planning across domain teams, ensuring teams have sufficient clarity on priorities, outcomes, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and sequencing to execute effectively.
Coordinate execution across Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, Architecture, Governance, Security, Analytics, AI/ML, and business teams to deliver scalable, secure, governed, and reusable data products.
Manage complex cross-team and cross-domain dependencies, proactively identifying execution risks, capacity constraints, architectural dependencies, data availability issues, and decision points that could impact delivery.
Establish effective operating rhythms across federated engineering teams, including planning, dependency management, delivery reviews, risk escalation, release coordination, and executive reporting.
Track delivery health and outcomes using metrics such as roadmap attainment, milestone predictability, dependency resolution, data quality, reliability, adoption, usage, and business impact.
Ensure data product initiatives incorporate enterprise requirements for architecture, metadata, governance, privacy, security, data quality, observability, and compliance without creating unnecessary barriers to domain autonomy and speed.
Partner with engineering and architecture leaders to identify opportunities for reusable data products, common capabilities, and platform components that reduce duplication and accelerate delivery across domains.
Drive resolution of complex program issues by bringing together the appropriate business and technical stakeholders, clarifying decisions, establishing ownership, and ensuring timely follow-through.
Continuously improve data product delivery practices, templates, governance mechanisms, planning processes, and execution standards across the federated Data & Analytics organization.
Provide senior leadership with a clear view of the data product portfolio, including priorities, progress, dependencies, risks, capacity constraints, investment needs, and expected business outcomes.
Serve as a trusted advisor to Data Domain Owners, engineering leaders, and business stakeholders on structuring and executing complex enterprise data initiatives.
Champion a culture of accountability, transparency, engineering partnership, continuous improvement, and outcome-oriented delivery.
What you'll bring:
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
10+ years of experience in technical program management, data and analytics delivery, data engineering, technology transformation, or related disciplines.
Demonstrated success leading complex, enterprise-scale data, analytics, or technology programs involving multiple engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Proven ability to translate business strategy and demand into a prioritized, executable book of work and drive initiatives from definition through production delivery.
Strong experience managing complex cross-functional programs involving dependencies across engineering, architecture, platforms, governance, security, analytics, and business teams.
Strong understanding of Agile delivery models, product-oriented operating models, portfolio planning, backlog management, and modern engineering practices.
Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to drive alignment and accountability without direct authority.
Strong understanding of modern cloud data platforms, data engineering, data architecture, APIs, analytics ecosystems, and AI/ML enablement.
Experience managing program risks, dependencies, milestones, capacity constraints, delivery metrics, and executive-level reporting.
Ability to operate effectively in environments where delivery ownership is distributed across multiple federated engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating within a Data Mesh, federated data product, or domain-oriented data architecture.
Experience managing enterprise data product portfolios or large books of work spanning multiple business domains and engineering teams.
Experience in distribution, supply chain, manufacturing, construction, or other operationally complex industries.
Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data quality, master data management, lineage, and data observability.
