We are seeking an experienced Senior Tekla Detailer to lead structural steel modeling and detailing from design development through fabrication and field erection.
This is a senior technical role combining advanced Tekla Structures expertise with leadership, quality control, and workflow development. The successful candidate will produce and review fabrication-ready models and drawings while helping establish detailing standards, improve workflows, and mentor other detailers.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in a structural steel fabrication environment and understands the complete detailing lifecycle—from 3D modeling and connection detailing through shop drawings, fabrication, delivery, and erection.
Key Responsibilities
Lead structural steel modeling and detailing using Tekla Structures from design through fabrication and erection.
Develop accurate, fabrication-ready 3D models, shop drawings, erection drawings, bills of materials, and related detailing documentation.
Review structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, engineering documents, and contract requirements to establish detailing scope.
Identify design conflicts, missing information, constructability issues, and potential fabrication or erection challenges.
Develop, maintain, and improve Tekla standards, templates, custom components, workflows, and detailing procedures.
Review models and drawings for accuracy, completeness, constructability, dimensional consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
Coordinate with structural engineers, fabricators, production teams, project managers, general contractors, and field personnel to resolve technical issues.
Support complex connection detailing, modeling challenges, revisions, and field-related detailing requirements.
Provide technical leadership, training, and mentorship to junior and intermediate detailers.
Establish quality-control practices to maintain consistent detailing standards across projects.
Ensure detailing reflects actual fabrication capabilities, shop requirements, erection sequencing, and field conditions.
Manage multiple projects and detailing priorities while meeting production schedules and deadlines.
Identify opportunities to improve modeling efficiency, drawing quality, standardization, and overall detailing workflows.
Support the transition from engineering and 3D modeling to fabrication and field erection.
Requirements
8+ years of structural steel detailing experience.
Advanced proficiency with Tekla Structures required.
Direct structural steel fabrication experience required.
Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, connection detailing, shop drawings, material requirements, and erection sequencing.
Proven experience producing fabrication-ready Tekla models and drawings.
Experience developing or improving Tekla standards, templates, custom components, workflows, or detailing procedures.
Previous experience leading, mentoring, training, or providing technical direction to structural steel detailers.
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural plans, specifications, engineering documents, and fabrication requirements.
Strong understanding of steel connections, constructability, tolerances, fabrication processes, and erection requirements.
Experience coordinating with engineering, fabrication, production, project management, and field teams.
Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate, fabrication-ready documentation.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet demanding production schedules.
Strong understanding of the complete workflow from design and modeling through fabrication, delivery, and field erection.
