Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports pediatric oncology and hematology providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, compassionate, and efficient manner. Working in a specialized pediatric setting, the MA partners closely with physicians to coordinate care for children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders. The MA assists with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, supports patient and family education, and performs administrative duties to ensure smooth daily clinic operations.
This role functions within the defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed provider and in alignment with Mercy's mission, values, and standards of care.
Why This Role Matters
This position is essential to maintaining the physician-to-support staff ratio required for efficient clinic operations within Mercy Kids Cancer & Hematology. The Medical Assistant works directly alongside physicians in a one-to-one support model, helping ensure timely patient care, optimal clinic flow, and a positive experience for patients and families.
Without this position, patient flow would be significantly impacted, potentially limiting access to evidence-based care for pediatric oncology and hematology patients. This role also supports provider efficiency, caregiver engagement, patient satisfaction, and overall clinic performance.

Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, pain assessments, and other relevant clinical information.
Collect, verify, and update patient medical histories, including medication reconciliation.

Reinforce patient and family education provided by physicians or nursing staff.
Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals, and care coordination activities.

Perform front-office responsibilities including answering phones, patient check-in/check-out, managing faxes, and scanning documents.
Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in staff meetings and departmental activities.
Follow all infection prevention, safety, regulatory, and organizational policies and procedures.
Demonstrate sensitivity and compassion when interacting with pediatric patients and families facing complex medical conditions.
