From Amazon's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
How would you like to impact hundreds of millions of customers around the world and empower hundreds of engineers to build and ship new features each and every day? Our org is responsible for creating the best shopping experience for customers wherever they go on their favorite Android and iOS devices. As the SDM for the Release & Quality team within the Mobile App Foundations organization, you will own the mechanisms that get high-quality mobile releases into customers' hands safely, predictably, and fast.
Amazon Shopping mobile engineers have a diverse range of skills and talents and we can't wait to harness your passion to make our team even stronger. We set and raise the bar on the mobile app shopping experience by building engineering frameworks, tools, and code used by thousands of developers across Amazon. The Release & Quality team is central to that bar: we own the release pipeline and quality enforcement that thousands of Amazon developers depend on to ship to the Amazon Shopping app.
We think in terms of frameworks not features; stability, scaling, and performance over using technology to solve problems.
As SDM for Release & Quality, you will lead a team responsible for the end-to-end health of the mobile release process across iOS and Android.
Owning the release cadence and publication decision mechanisms, and the operational excellence and automation that keep releases predictable and on schedule.
Raising the quality bar through automated testing enforcement and building regression detection mechanisms.
Instrumenting release health, including dial-up monitoring, so issues are caught early and decisions are data-driven.
Reducing operational burden by identifying systemic gaps and investing in automation and tooling rather than one-off fixes.
Partnering closely with TPMs, partner mobile teams, and app store operations to align priorities, resolve release blockers, and manage escalations.
About you: You are a technical leader looking to build and expand on your passion for mobile. You want to build durable mechanisms that make releasing software fully automated, safe, repeatable, and fast. You think about quality and release as an engineering system, not a checklist, and you insist on the highest standards while keeping the team unblocked and shipping.
You are comfortable diving deep into release incidents and metrics to find root causes, and you hold a high bar for accuracy in the status and signals your team produces. You want to challenge yourself to solve complex problems at scale that have never been encountered anywhere else. You enjoy managing a team, helping engineers grow their skills, and you earn trust with partners by turning ambiguous, cross-team release problems into clear plans with owners and dates.
About us: We're going to change the way customers shop on mobile. Along the way, we're going to face challenging and interesting problems that no one else has seen. We'll leverage our camaraderie, diversity, and strong culture to break down walls to find solutions that challenge our original assumptions, make the hard decisions, and deliver a final product that's superior to the proposals we started with.
Have the passion to build and the drive to change how we ship mobile apps? Join us!
