Compliance Director (Inst)
The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a dynamic, collaborative, motivated and experienced leader to serve as the Director of Conflict of Interest (COI) and Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR).
The COI and RCR Director will provide leadership for the COI Office and oversee policies and processes addressing federal requirements associated with financial conflicts of interest in research. Among other duties, this role is responsible for maintaining the university-wide Outside Activities Reporting (OAR) portal and leading the RCR program, including education, training, and guidance for faculty, staff, and students.
The Director will employ a risk-based approach that reflects the mission, values and goals of the UW-Madison and ensures compliance with applicable university, state, and federal policies and regulations.
The COI and RCR Director will develop and maintain relationships internally (e.g., program staff, academic and administrative units) and externally (e.g., federal agencies, national networks, etc.) toward the continued success of faculty, research staff, and students. The Director is an ex officio member of several institutional committees and frequently coordinates with the Human Research Protection Program.
As assigned, the COI and RCR Director and members of the COI Office may support the Research Integrity Officer in handling allegations of research misconduct.
The COI and RCR Director role requires technical expertise, a commitment to continuous improvement and shared governance, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to enable success in a decentralized, academic environment. The Director will be one of three direct reports to the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Integrity and Compliance in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR). The Director will provide supportive supervision to program staff.
About the OVCR: The Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) serves as the chief research officer and the principal advisor to the Chancellor and the Provost on the research enterprise. The OVCR provides oversight for the institution's broad research enterprise including a university-wide array of faculty and staff research programs with total annual expenditures of ~$1.9 billion and promotes graduate education and research by enhancing funding support from internal and external agencies including the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation
(WARF). The VCR is responsible for an array of multidisciplinary research centers and institutes, research policy and compliance which includes conflict of interest, human subjects, animal welfare and responsible conduct of research and negotiation of industry contracts.
Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives.
Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

Compensation
The minimum annual salary for this position is $155,000 depending on qualifications.
The employee in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
Five or more years of experience administering research-related administration and/or compliance activities within a large complex organization.
Three or more years of program management experience within a large complex organization.
Understanding of US federal conflict of interest and responsible conduct of research policies and regulations.
Superior oral and written communications skills.
Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment across organizational units at all organizational levels.
