Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct, coach, and evaluate the EDD Supervisor and FIU Systems & Projects Manager. Set accountability for quality, timeliness, and control effectiveness; oversee staffing, capacity planning, succession, cross-training, and professional development across both teams.
Job Summary: The FIU Compliance and Risk Manager leads the FIU’s proactive customer-risk and compliance capabilities, ensuring that customer onboarding and ongoing due diligence produce complete, well-supported risk profiles and that FIU systems enable effective financial-crime risk identification. The Manager translates the bank’s risk appetite and approved policies into practical controls, consistent decisions, and measurable oversight.
Aligns people and technology priorities, and partners with business leaders, AML and fraud operations, Legal, Risk, and Information Technology. The role supports sustainable growth through disciplined governance, reliable data, documented control performance, and timely escalation of material risks.
Develop and execute compliance, onboarding, due diligence, and FIU systems strategy within the FIU’s approved mandate. Establish operating standards, priorities, escalation channels, and management reporting that align with the bank’s risk appetite and business objectives.
Oversee financial-crime risk controls for new customer onboarding, including customer identification, customer due diligence, ownership and control information, expected account activity, and supporting documentation. Partner with account-opening teams to resolve deficiencies and escalate exceptions before approval where required by bank policy.
Direct the risk-based enhanced due diligence (EDD) program for higher-risk relationships. Establish standards for understanding business purpose, ownership structures, source of funds and, where appropriate, source of wealth; oversee adverse-information research and documentation of risk conclusions.
Own the governance of customer-risk assessment and rating methodologies within the FIU’s assigned scope. Oversee risk factors, segmentation, documentation, and periodic evaluation of methodology performance; ensure material changes receive appropriate review and approval.
Oversee risk-based periodic and event-driven customer reviews. Ensure material changes in customer activity or risk are evaluated, documented, and communicated to monitoring and investigative teams.
Maintain policies and procedures for assigned functions and contribute customer-risk, systems, and control information to the FIU’s financial-crime risk assessment. Partner with the AML/CFT Officer to evaluate relevant changes and implement approved updates to processes, controls, and training.
Through the FIU Systems & Projects Manager, oversee Verafin and related FIU applications, customer-risk data, interfaces, data completeness, reconciliations, access controls, and issue resolution. Partner with Technology and vendors to maintain reliable processing, appropriate segregation of duties, and documented operational continuity.
Govern system configuration, scenario tuning, threshold testing, and change management in partnership with AML and fraud operations. Require documented objectives, testing, approval, implementation evidence, and post-change review. Balance efficiency with detection effectiveness rather than reducing alert volume.
Coordinate system or model inventories, validation support, and remediation with the designated model-risk and independent validation functions, as applicable. Ensure evidence is available and findings are tracked without substituting operational testing for independent validation.
Establish a documented, risk-based management quality-control program for assigned activities and cross-functional reviews formally delegated to this team. Set review scope, sampling, defect classification, escalation, and corrective-action standards. Avoid self-review and preserve the distinction between management quality control and independent assurance.
Provide the FIU Director and relevant governance forums with concise reporting on onboarding turnaround, overdue EDD reviews, risk-rating exceptions, quality defects, data or system issues, and remediation progress. Identify emerging risks and capacity constraints, recommend action, and deliver targeted guidance to business partners.
Sponsor FIU onboarding and technology improvements, including new products, system implementations, and integration initiatives. Define requirements, control impacts, testing, readiness, and ownership; manage priorities and resources; and maintain effective handoffs with Retail, Commercial, Operations, Technology, AML, and fraud teams.
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to empower and develop a team; exhibits openness to others' views and maintains a collaborative approach to resolving issues across departments and functions. Contributes to building a positive team spirit to build morale. Inspires and motivates others to perform.
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Communicates clear and specific expectations. Ability to set direction and inspire.
Highly organized with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Ability to appropriately reply to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Works collaboratively across functional areas to achieve results in line with corporate values and culture.
Critical thinking skills. Ability to define complex problems and draw valid conclusions through research; collecting data and facts.
