From Amazon's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Amazon created one of the most sophisticated supply chains in the world. From the introduction of Amazon Prime to the use of advanced technology for package delivery, Amazon consistently drives change from the front of the pack.
Are you an innovative leader that wants to lead the cross-functional design and deployment of next-generation sortation and distribution solutions into our world-class fulfillment and logistics network? Do you want to take ownership of solving the industry's most complex construction and integration challenges? Does the challenge of planning and implementing facility network infrastructure — including new builds, retrofits, expansions, and program initiatives — appeal to you?
If you're looking to be challenged in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment, and you have strong technical problem-solving and project management skills, then this job is for you!
Amazon is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Tech Infra Program Manager with the Global Engineering Services (GES) North America (NA) Startup Engineering Risk Management (ERM) team who is able to collaborate effectively with internal and external technical teams and be responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of physical distribution systems across multiple building types.
The role primarily focuses on managing technology and integration projects end-to-end, delivering turnkey solutions that meet project goals and support a timely handover to operations.
In this role you will be responsible for working with internal customers to define highly ambiguous problem statements, influencing construction and integration strategies across the NA network, writing technical specifications and performing technical evaluations on equipment and systems, generating multiyear budgets, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing multiple large, high-visibility programs simultaneously through the project lifecycle.
You will partner with internal customers and internal/external stakeholders — including equipment vendors, customers, and partners — to engage as a team and ensure seamless project delivery. To meet timelines and minimize disruption to support teams, you will manage the overall schedule, proactively mitigate risks, and keep the scope of engineering deliverables under control.
This person will possess a strong engineering and program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects, and will have a well-rounded technical background in fulfillment and distribution center designs, including a solid understanding of design approaches and industry technologies. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an innovative environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.
This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done.
This role requires 50% regional travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Key job responsibilities
This person will manage multiple large, highly complex programs, solely responsible for driving them through the develop and deployment lifecycle.
You deeply understand the business and technical requirements of product integration from mechanical, electrical, and controls functions
You are expected to have fluency in systems level architecture, critique and debate tech design, judge technical viability of the product/solution and tailor communication for tech and non-tech stakeholders.
Help your customers and the engineering teams make appropriate trade-offs by considering the larger picture (e.g., business goals, throughput expectations, quality requirements, efficiency, maintainability, operability)
Identify standards and drive consistent application of engineering changes across North America
Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center (FC) leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites including Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Process Engineering stakeholders
The Engineering Risk Management (ERM) team manages the implementation of GES NA’s new launches and retrofits, bridging conceptual design milestones to operational go-live. Operating under five core tenets, the team coordinates complex projects across multiple internal stakeholders and external vendors, ensuring timely delivery while maintaining quality standards. Through tight collaboration with cross functional teams, we aim to eliminate process gaps to optimize project execution.
Success is measured through effective program management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder alignment. The team's value lies in translating these strategic plans into operational reality, by providing clear project visibility, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to remove project barriers and achieve GES's broader network optimization goals.
At Amazon, we are all Owners and leverage unique opportunities presented to us by owning everything from firm engineering to project execution and final hand-off to our customers. We are a diverse, upbeat, creative team of engineers and managers working on a daily basis to ensure that our internal customers have capabilities to deliver on the Customer Promise.
We not only build, but we are also consistently improving our capabilities at Amazon. Continuous improvement is the ongoing enhancement of our systems through incremental and breakthrough developments. We are continually raising the quality bar, and are never satisfied. We seek to improve through captured lessons learned that are incorporated back into our mechanisms as a way to perpetually improve upon the next design and processes iterations.
We continually learn, grow, and develop throughout the organization and our Subject Matter Expertise is leveraged globally.
We are the Team! We collaborate, support, help and leverage each other in delivering on the business objectives.
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
