Employer job description
From Momentum Accounting's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
ABOUT THE ROLE
At Momentum Accounting, we’re more than just a remote accounting firm. We’re a people-first, tech-savvy team that helps small businesses grow with confidence. We believe accounting should be empowering, not overwhelming. That’s why we blend smart systems, strategic thinking, and human connection to deliver financial clarity our clients can act on.
The Team Lead runs the day-to-day of an accounting pod serving a defined book of clients. You manage a small team of bookkeepers and accountants, own the quality of work going out the door, and serve as the first point of escalation for client and team questions. This is a player-coach role: most of your week is spent unblocking your team and reviewing work, but you still hold a small portfolio of your own.
You report to the Accounting Manager. Your pod includes bookkeepers, junior accountants, and accountants. You partner with Senior Accountants on the more complex client work and escalate to the Accounting Manager when a client risk needs attention.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead a pod: Manage a team of bookkeepers and accountants assigned to a defined client portfolio. Run weekly 1:1s and a weekly pod huddle.
- Review work: Review month-end deliverables from your team before they reach clients. Provide clear, constructive feedback that develops the team.
- Own pod throughput: Balance assignments across the pod. Spot capacity issues early and escalate to the Accounting Manager with options.
- Be the first line of escalation: Client questions, team blockers, and process questions land with you first. Resolve what you can. Escalate what needs to be escalated.
- Carry your own portfolio: Own a small portfolio of clients personally so you stay close to the work.
- Coach the team: Develop bookkeepers into accountants and accountants into senior accountants. Identify training gaps and close them.
- Partner with onboarding: Receive new clients cleanly from the Onboarding team. Make sure your pod has what it needs to deliver from day one.
- Maintain Teamwork accuracy: Your pod’s projects, tasks, and statuses reflect reality at all times.
- Surface process improvements: Bring SOP gaps and workflow issues to the Accounting Manager with a recommended fix.
- Maintain Small Improvements for your team: Performance check-ins, development goals, and weekly pulse stay current.
- RESULTS YOU’LL DRIVE
- On-time delivery: 95% or higher of pod deliverables on time across the portfolio.
- Quality work: Error rates declining quarter over quarter. Clean review notes from the Accounting Manager.
- Team development: At least one team member promoted or expanded in scope each year.
- Client satisfaction: No client surprises. Issues flagged to the Accounting Manager before they escalate.
- Healthy team: Low turnover in your pod. 15Five trending positive.
- Process contribution: SOPs improve because of issues you surface. Your pod runs the same way every month.
- OUR CORE VALUES
- Raise the Bar: We don’t aim to keep up; we aim to lead. Whether it’s setting industry standards or creating new ones, we’re always pushing to be the best at what we do.
- GSD (Get Sh*t Done): We move fast, stay focused, and make it happen. When we commit, we deliver. No drama. No excuses. Just results.
- Keep It Real: We believe business should be real and enjoyable. That means being honest, owning our mistakes, showing up with personality… and yes, we laugh a lot too.
- We Give A Damn: We care deeply about our clients, their businesses, and the outcomes we help create. We show up, follow through, and go the extra mile.
